Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Spearhead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and diversified fundraising strategy that aligns with the organization's mission and financial goals.
  • Proactively identify, research, and qualify a portfolio of prospective major donors, foundations, and corporate partners using wealth screening tools and prospect research methodologies.
  • Cultivate and steward strong, long-term relationships with a portfolio of individual and institutional donors, ensuring personalized communication and meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Architect and execute tailored solicitation strategies for major donors, including preparing compelling proposals, briefing materials, and leading or supporting solicitation meetings.
  • Plan, manage, and execute all aspects of fundraising events, from large-scale galas to intimate donor cultivation events, overseeing logistics, budgeting, sponsorship acquisition, and post-event analysis.
  • Author, edit, and submit high-quality, persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and reports to foundations and government entities, ensuring strict adherence to all deadlines and guidelines.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of the annual fund campaign, including direct mail, email marketing, social media appeals, and giving days, to broaden the donor base and increase unrestricted revenue.
  • Collaborate closely with the communications and marketing team to develop compelling fundraising collateral, case statements, and digital content that effectively communicates the organization's impact.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all donor interactions, pledges, and gifts within the organization's CRM database (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, Bloomerang).
  • Generate regular, detailed reports on fundraising activities, progress towards goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Design and implement a systematic donor stewardship program to ensure all donors receive timely acknowledgments, recognition, and reports on the impact of their contributions.
  • Secure and manage corporate sponsorships for events and programs, including developing sponsorship packages, pitching to potential partners, and fulfilling all sponsorship benefits.
  • Develop and grow a planned giving program by identifying prospects and cultivating relationships to secure legacy gifts such as bequests and other estate-based contributions.
  • Represent the organization professionally at community events, networking functions, and professional conferences to build brand awareness and expand the network of potential supporters.
  • Work in tandem with the finance department to reconcile fundraising income, manage gift processing procedures, and ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  • Oversee online fundraising platforms and digital giving tools, optimizing donation pages and leveraging peer-to-peer fundraising technologies to maximize online revenue.
  • Conduct in-depth prospect research to identify new funding opportunities and provide detailed profiles and briefing documents for leadership and board members.
  • Manage and support the fundraising activities of board members and other key volunteers, providing them with the necessary tools, training, and encouragement to be effective ambassadors.
  • Stay current on fundraising trends, best practices, and philanthropic sector developments to ensure the organization's strategies remain innovative and effective.
  • Develop and monitor budgets for all fundraising initiatives, tracking expenses and revenues to ensure a positive return on investment and efficient use of resources.
  • Coordinate with program staff to gather compelling stories, data, and programmatic updates to be used in grant proposals, donor communications, and impact reports.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the planning and execution of volunteer engagement and appreciation initiatives.
  • Contribute to the creation of the organization's annual report and other key publications.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • CRM Database Management: High proficiency in using and maintaining fundraising CRMs such as Salesforce for Nonprofits, Raiser's Edge, or Bloomerang.
  • Grant Writing & Management: Proven ability to write compelling, successful grant proposals and manage the entire grant lifecycle from research to reporting.
  • Prospect Research: Expertise in using research tools (e.g., DonorSearch, iWave) and public records to identify and qualify potential donors.
  • Digital Fundraising Tools: Experience with online giving platforms, peer-to-peer fundraising software (e.g., Classy, Givebutter), and email marketing services (e.g., Mailchimp).
  • Budgeting & Financial Acumen: Skill in creating and managing fundraising budgets, tracking ROI, and understanding non-profit financial statements.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:

  • Master's Degree or Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential.
