Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist licensed funeral directors with the coordination and execution of all logistical aspects of funeral, memorial, and graveside services.
  • Greet and escort mourners, family members, and friends, providing a comforting and professional presence during visitations and services.
  • Participate in the transfer of the deceased from the place of death (hospital, nursing home, residence) to the funeral home with dignity and respect.
  • Prepare the visitation rooms and chapel for services, including arranging floral tributes, placing photos and memorabilia, and setting up casket or urn displays.
  • Operate funeral vehicles, such as hearses, flower cars, and limousines, in a safe and professional manner for services and processions.
  • Assist with the casketing and dressing of the deceased under the direct supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Provide pallbearer duties when necessary and instruct honorary pallbearers on their roles and responsibilities.
  • Manage the setup and operation of audio/visual equipment for photo slideshows, music, and live-streaming of services.
  • Ensure the orderly movement of the funeral procession to the cemetery or crematory, coordinating with law enforcement escorts when applicable.
  • Maintain a pristine and welcoming environment throughout the funeral home, including chapels, lobbies, restrooms, and arrangement rooms.
  • Distribute and arrange memorial programs, prayer cards, and register books for guests during services.
  • Provide clear and compassionate instructions to guests regarding service flow, parking, and facility locations.
  • Assist with post-service breakdown and cleaning of service areas, returning the facility to a state of readiness.
  • Run essential errands, such as delivering documents to medical offices, picking up death certificates, or transporting flowers.
  • Stand as a door attendant, courteously answering questions and directing visitors to the appropriate location.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform light maintenance and cleaning of all funeral home vehicles, ensuring they are immaculate for every service.
  • Assist with general groundskeeping and building maintenance tasks to ensure the facility's exterior is presentable and safe.
  • Support the administrative team by answering phones, taking first-call information, and relaying messages accurately.
  • Help manage and organize the inventory of caskets, urns, burial vaults, and other funeral-related merchandise.
  • Assist families with moving and arranging floral arrangements and personal items after the conclusion of services.
  • Provide on-call support for after-hours removals and be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Contribute to a team environment by willingly assisting colleagues with various tasks as needed to ensure seamless operations.

  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record, suitable for insurance purposes.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, and pull 75-100 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Proficiency in operating basic computer software (MS Office) and standard office equipment.

Experience Requirements
