Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Greet and direct mourners with a compassionate and professional demeanor as they arrive for visitations, funerals, and memorial services.
- Provide direct support to grieving family members and guests, answering questions, offering comfort, and anticipating their needs throughout the service.
- Assist with the transfer of the deceased from the place of death (hospital, residence, or care facility) to the funeral home with dignity and respect.
- Prepare the deceased for services under the guidance of a licensed embalmer, which includes tasks such as dressing, casketing, and cosmetic application.
- Set up visitation rooms and chapels for services, meticulously arranging flowers, placing photographs, setting out register books, and ensuring a welcoming, immaculate environment.
- Act as a pallbearer when required, professionally escorting the casket and assisting with its movement during services and at the cemetery.
- Drive funeral vehicles, including hearses, flower cars, and limousines, in a safe, courteous, and respectful manner as part of the funeral procession.
- Manage the orderly flow of traffic and parking for services to ensure the safety and convenience of all attendees.
- Operate audio and visual equipment to play requested music or display memorial video tributes during services.
- Accompany the deceased and the family to the final place of disposition, whether a cemetery or crematorium, providing continuous support.
- Ensure all personal effects of the deceased are handled with care, properly inventoried, and returned to the family in a timely manner.
- Assist with pre-service preparations, including the folding and placement of service programs, memorial cards, and donation envelopes.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and readiness of all funeral home facilities, including chapels, visitation rooms, lobbies, restrooms, and preparation areas.
- Ensure the funeral home's fleet of vehicles is impeccably clean, polished, and maintained in a constant state of readiness.
- Receive, document, and arrange floral tributes and other memorial items, and assist with their delivery to the family's home or other designated location after the service.
- Support Funeral Directors with administrative tasks such as answering phones, filing death certificates, and preparing necessary service-related documents.
- Assist with the setup, execution, and teardown of off-site memorial services held at churches, community centers, or other external venues.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of service-related supplies (e.g., memorial books, tissues, refreshments) and facility maintenance items, reporting any needs to management.
- Uphold the highest standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professional conduct in all interactions with families, guests, and colleagues.
- Provide post-service support to families, which may include delivering documents, flowers, or other memorial items.
- Participate in community engagement and outreach events as a professional representative of the funeral home.
- Remain on-call for removals and other immediate-need situations as part of a rotating schedule, responding promptly and professionally.
Required Skills & Competencies

- Valid State Driver's License with a clean and insurable driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds and push/pull heavy caskets.
