Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Guide and support bereaved families through the entire funeral arrangement process, providing compassionate and professional advice on all service options, merchandise, and financial matters.
  • Conduct arrangement conferences to understand family needs and preferences, meticulously planning visitations, religious services, memorial gatherings, and committal services.
  • Expertly coordinate all logistical aspects of funeral services, including scheduling with clergy, cemeteries, crematories, pallbearers, and other third-party vendors.
  • Prepare the deceased for final viewing and disposition through professional embalming, restorative art, dressing, cosmetizing, and casketing in accordance with legal requirements and family wishes.
  • Oversee and direct all components of the funeral service, ensuring a smooth and dignified experience for the family and attendees from the first viewing to the final interment.
  • Secure and complete all necessary legal documentation, including death certificates, burial/cremation permits, and transit permits, ensuring accuracy and timely filing with government agencies.
  • Arrange for the respectful and timely transfer of the deceased from the place of death to the funeral home, often requiring on-call availability.
  • Author, edit, and submit obituaries to newspapers and online platforms as requested by the family.
  • Provide comprehensive explanations of funeral costs and payment options, and manage the processing of payments, insurance claims, and veterans' benefits paperwork.
  • Maintain a deep understanding and ensure strict compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the funeral service industry.
  • Manage and maintain the funeral home facilities, ensuring all public areas, chapels, and preparation rooms are clean, presentable, and safe.
  • Oversee the inventory of caskets, urns, burial vaults, and other funeral products, assisting families with their selections in a non-pressurized environment.
  • Conduct pre-need funeral arrangement consultations, helping individuals and families plan for the future and secure their wishes.
  • Provide aftercare support and resources to families following the funeral service, connecting them with grief counseling and community support groups.
  • Lead and mentor a team of support staff, including funeral assistants, apprentices, and administrative personnel, fostering a collaborative and compassionate work environment.
  • Safely and professionally operate funeral home vehicles, including hearses, flower cars, and first-call vehicles.
  • Act as a community liaison, participating in local events and educational programs to build relationships and represent the funeral home professionally.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
