Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Interpret and analyze complex blueprints, CAD drawings, and detailed specifications to understand project scope, dimensions, and material requirements.
- Select and grade raw lumber and other materials, ensuring they meet the quality standards and aesthetic requirements for each project.
- Operate a wide array of professional woodworking machinery, including table saws, jointers, planers, band saws, shapers, and sanders, with a strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Set up and operate CNC routing equipment for precise cutting and shaping of components, demonstrating the ability to make adjustments as needed.
- Execute a variety of wood joinery techniques, such as mortise and tenon, dovetails, and doweling, to ensure structural integrity and a high-quality finish.
- Precisely measure, cut, and shape wood components, veneers, and laminates according to design specifications, maintaining tight tolerances.
- Assemble furniture components using clamps, fasteners, and adhesives, ensuring all parts are square, flush, and securely joined.
- Perform detailed sanding and surface preparation on all components to create a smooth, flawless base for finishing.
- Apply a range of finishes, including stains, sealers, paints, oils, and lacquers, using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment to achieve the desired look and durability.
- Install hardware such as hinges, handles, drawer slides, and other fittings with precision and care.
- Fabricate jigs, fixtures, and templates as needed to improve accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency in the production process.
- Conduct thorough quality control inspections at all stages of construction to identify and rectify any defects, imperfections, or deviations from the plan.
- Carefully wrap, pack, and prepare finished furniture for transportation and delivery, ensuring it is protected from damage.
Secondary Functions
- Collaborate directly with designers and clients to provide expert feedback on buildability, material selection, and potential design modifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, actively participating in shop-wide cleaning and organizational efforts.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of hand tools, power tools, and large-scale machinery to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Assist in managing inventory of raw materials, hardware, and finishing supplies, notifying the shop manager of low stock levels.
- Troubleshoot and resolve construction challenges and unexpected issues that arise during the fabrication and assembly process.
