Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely and efficiently load and unload furniture, appliances, and boxes onto and off moving trucks, using proper lifting techniques and equipment to prevent injury and damage.
  • Expertly wrap and pad furniture with blankets and plastic wrap to protect it from scratches, dents, and other forms of damage during transit.
  • Skillfully disassemble and reassemble complex furniture items, such as bed frames, entertainment centers, and modular desks, ensuring all hardware is accounted for and the item is structurally sound upon reassembly.
  • Collaborate effectively with a team of movers, communicating clearly to coordinate lifts, maneuvers, and the strategic loading of the truck to maximize space and ensure stability.
  • Provide exceptional, five-star customer service by communicating professionally and courteously with clients throughout the moving process, addressing their concerns and answering their questions.
  • Protect customer property by laying down floor runners, padding doorways and stair railings, and implementing other protective measures to prevent damage to floors, walls, and fixtures.
  • Proficiently operate moving equipment, including dollies, hand trucks, furniture sliders, and straps, to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of heavy and bulky items.
  • Accurately complete and maintain detailed inventory lists of all items being moved, ensuring every box and piece of furniture is accounted for at both the origin and destination.
  • Conduct pre-move walk-throughs with clients to confirm the scope of the move and identify any special handling requirements for fragile or high-value items.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the moving truck and equipment to ensure they are in safe, working order.

  • Maintain high levels of physical stamina and energy throughout long and physically demanding workdays, which often include extensive walking, lifting, and carrying.

  • Carefully pack clients' belongings into boxes, using appropriate packing materials and techniques to ensure the safe transport of fragile items like glassware, dishes, and artwork.
  • Assist clients with unpacking boxes and placing furniture according to their direction, helping them settle into their new home or office efficiently.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including bills of lading, move contracts, and payment transactions, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Handle customer payments, including credit card transactions and cash, and ensure all financial transactions are documented correctly.
  • Perform post-move cleanup, including removing all moving supplies, debris, and equipment from the client's property, leaving the space clean and tidy.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the moving truck's cab and cargo area, ensuring it is presentable and ready for the next job.
  • Communicate any unexpected delays, issues, or damages to the team lead and the customer in a timely and professional manner.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Heavy Lifting & Carrying: Ability to consistently lift and move items weighing 75 lbs or more, often in coordination with a partner.
  • Proper Lifting Techniques: Knowledge of safe lifting practices (e.g., lifting with legs) to prevent personal injury.
  • Furniture Assembly/Disassembly: Proficiency in using basic hand tools (drills, wrenches, screwdrivers) to take apart and reassemble common household furniture.
