Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Oversee the entire game development lifecycle, from initial concept and prototyping through to production, launch, live operations, and eventual sunsetting, ensuring a cohesive and well-managed process.
  • Develop, own, and meticulously maintain the project's master roadmap, production schedules, and detailed sprint plans, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and stakeholder expectations.
  • Act as the primary communication hub and facilitator between all development disciplines, including art, design, engineering, audio, and quality assurance, to foster a transparent and highly collaborative environment.
  • Define the project's scope and deliverables in collaboration with creative and technical leads, and rigorously manage scope to prevent "feature creep" while remaining adaptable to necessary changes.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to budget, schedule, personnel, and technology, developing contingency plans to keep the project on track.
  • Manage the project budget, tracking expenditures, forecasting future costs, and providing regular financial reports to studio leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Lead and facilitate key production meetings, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming sessions, sprint retrospectives, and milestone reviews.
  • Champion the chosen development methodology (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban), ensuring its principles are consistently applied and adapted to the team's specific needs to maximize efficiency.
  • Work closely with department leads to manage team resources and assignments, ensuring that talent is allocated effectively and workloads are balanced.
  • Establish and maintain a clear, structured system for tracking tasks, bugs, and team progress using project management tools like Jira or Hansoft.
  • Prepare and deliver regular, detailed project status updates and presentations for the development team, studio leadership, and external partners.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with external partners, including publishers, platform holders (like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo), and outsourcing vendors.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance (QA) to define testing strategies, prioritize bug-fixing efforts, and ensure the final product meets the highest quality standards.
  • Collaborate with marketing, community, and PR teams to align development milestones with the go-to-market strategy and provide necessary assets and information.
  • Serve as a key decision-maker, often having the final say on production trade-offs between scope, quality, and time to ensure the project's success.
  • Constantly evaluate and refine the production pipeline and team workflows, identifying and implementing improvements to boost productivity and quality.
  • Mediate interpersonal and inter-departmental conflicts, fostering a positive, respectful, and high-performance team culture.
  • Mentor and guide junior production staff, such as Associate Producers, helping them grow their skills and take on greater responsibility.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in game development and project management to bring fresh insights to the team.
  • Manage the submission process for all required platforms (e.g., Apple App Store, Google Play, Steam, Xbox, PlayStation), ensuring all technical requirements and deadlines are met.

  • Assist marketing and user acquisition teams by providing game builds, assets, and key feature information for promotional campaigns.
  • Champion studio culture and team health, organizing team-building events and implementing initiatives to boost morale and prevent burnout.
  • Participate in the hiring and onboarding process for new team members across various disciplines, helping to assess cultural fit and production awareness.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with third-party tool and middleware providers, ensuring the team has the software it needs to succeed.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep proficiency with project management software (Jira, Confluence, Trello, Asana, Hansoft).
  • Strong command of game development methodologies, particularly Agile, Scrum, and Kanban frameworks.
  • Experience with budget management, financial forecasting, and P&L (Profit & Loss) analysis for development projects.
  • Solid understanding of the full game development pipeline, from pre-production to live-ops.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Perforce or Git.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or, more commonly, equivalent professional experience in game development or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field. Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification is a significant plus.
