Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Create, implement, and maintain an extensive library of high-quality, real-time gameplay animations for player characters, NPCs, creatures, and interactive objects.
- Partner directly with gameplay designers and engineers to collaboratively develop, prototype, and implement sophisticated animation systems that support core game mechanics like combat, traversal, and social interactions.
- Take ownership of the full animation implementation pipeline, from asset integration into the game engine (e.g., Unreal, Unity) to fine-tuning blend trees, state machines, and logic to achieve a seamless and highly responsive player experience.
- Produce exceptionally fluid and believable keyframe animations, demonstrating a masterful understanding of body mechanics, timing, and weight.
- Perform detailed cleanup, editing, and enhancement of raw motion capture data, adapting and augmenting the performance to fit the specific timing, style, and constraints of real-time gameplay.
- Design, build, and maintain complex animation graphs, state machines, and blend spaces within the game engine to control character logic and produce fluid, natural motion.
- Deconstruct high-level design documentation and creative briefs, translating abstract gameplay concepts into tangible, compelling, and fully-realized character actions.
- Expertly balance the pursuit of realistic and believable motion with the critical need for tight, responsive controls that feel intuitive and satisfying to the player.
- Diligently iterate on animation timing, posing, and implementation based on feedback from internal playtests, peer reviews, and user research to constantly refine the "game feel."
- Specialize in the creation of dynamic and responsive animation sets for core gameplay systems, such as third-person or first-person combat, locomotion, and environmental traversal (e.g., climbing, vaulting, swimming).
- Author bespoke animations for unique gameplay scenarios, including contextual interactions, finishing moves, special abilities, and seamless transitions into in-game cinematics.
- Create compelling and nuanced facial animations, including dialogue and emotive expressions, to bring characters to life during in-game interactions and narrative sequences.
- Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and solve complex technical and aesthetic challenges within the animation pipeline, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
- Rigorously test and optimize all animation assets to meet strict performance budgets for frame rate and memory, ensuring a smooth gameplay experience across all target platforms.
- Maintain the established animation style and quality bar across all assigned tasks, working closely with the Animation Lead or Director for guidance and feedback.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
