Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform comprehensive disassembly, cleaning, and detailed inspection of complex industrial gearboxes, transmissions, and drive systems to accurately diagnose faults and determine repair requirements.
- Meticulously reassemble gear systems, setting precise backlash, bearing preloads, and gear contact patterns in strict accordance with OEM specifications and engineering drawings.
- Utilize a wide range of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators, to verify that component dimensions and tolerances meet exacting standards.
- Expertly interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to guide the assembly, repair, and troubleshooting processes for various gear configurations.
- Conduct thorough failure analysis on worn or damaged gears, bearings, and shafts to identify root causes, documenting findings in detailed service reports.
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, such as lathes, mills, and grinders, to perform modifications, repairs, or fabrication of gear-related components.
- Perform specialized gear-setting techniques, including lapping and bluing gear sets, to ensure optimal tooth contact patterns for maximum efficiency and longevity.
- Execute non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, such as magnetic particle or dye penetrant inspection, to identify surface and subsurface defects in critical gear components.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to move heavy gearboxes and components within the facility.
- Systematically troubleshoot and diagnose operational issues in mechanical power transmission systems, applying logical problem-solving skills to minimize downtime.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate documentation for all work performed, including inspection reports, service records, and parts usage, utilizing company ERP or CMMS software.
- Adhere rigorously to all company and industry safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, to ensure a safe and hazard-free work environment.
- Proficiently install and replace bearings, seals, gaskets, and other associated components, ensuring proper fitment and function within the gear assembly.
- Conduct final testing and validation runs on repaired or rebuilt gear units, monitoring for correct operation, temperature, and vibration levels before release to service.
- Skillfully deburr, polish, and finish machined or repaired gear components to achieve required surface finishes and remove any potential stress risers.
