Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately pick customer orders from racks, shelves, or bins using RF scanners, paper pick lists, or voice-picking technology to meet fulfillment targets.
- Carefully pack and prepare orders for shipment, selecting appropriate packing materials to ensure items are secure, correctly labeled, and meet company quality standards.
- Receive, unload, and meticulously process incoming shipments and freight, verifying contents against purchase orders and bills of lading, and noting any discrepancies or damages.
- Safely operate manual and electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies, and other material handling equipment (MHE) to move goods throughout the facility.
- Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequences such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
- Perform regular inventory counts, including cycle counts and physical inventories, to maintain precise stock levels and report any inconsistencies to supervisors.
- Load and unload goods from trucks, containers, and trailers, ensuring proper stacking, securing, and weight distribution for safe and efficient transport.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by consistently sweeping, dusting, and removing debris from aisles, workstations, and shipping/receiving docks.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Inspect products for defects, damage, or wear and tear during all handling processes, and report any quality control issues to the team lead or management.
- Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to accurately track inventory movement, process customer orders, and generate shipping labels and documentation.
- Assemble and stage outbound orders, consolidating items from various storage locations into a single, complete shipment ready for dispatch.
- Securely wrap and band pallets with stretch wrap, either manually or using automated wrapping machines, to ensure load stability during transit.
- Assist in the organization and optimization of warehouse storage space and bin locations to improve picking efficiency and accessibility.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to meet daily production goals, resolve issues, and ensure a smooth workflow.
- Read and interpret work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed for internal or external customers.
- Mark materials and pallets with identifying information using appropriate methods such as stenciling, labeling, or tagging for easy identification.
- Actively participate in daily team meetings to discuss performance metrics, safety topics, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Replenish stock in primary picking locations from bulk storage areas to ensure product availability for uninterrupted order fulfillment.
- Manage and process customer returns (reverse logistics), inspecting returned products for condition and updating inventory records accordingly.
- Perform basic pre-shift equipment checks and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs for material handling equipment to the maintenance team.
- Assist with value-added services such as kitting or light assembly of products, combining various components into a finished package as required.
Secondary Functions
- Support periodic deep-cleaning and large-scale organizational projects within the warehouse to maintain facility standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing constructive feedback on processes, workflows, and safety procedures.
- Assist other departments, such as shipping, receiving, or inventory control, during peak operational periods or staff shortages.
- Participate in all mandatory safety training sessions, workshops, and emergency drills to maintain a high level of preparedness and compliance.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Proficiency in operating manual and electric pallet jacks.
- Experience with handheld RF (Radio Frequency) scanners and other warehouse technology.
- Basic mathematical skills for counting, sorting, and verifying quantities accurately.
- Ability to consistently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects, typically up to 50 lbs.
- General familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for order processing and inventory tracking.
- Knowledge of basic safety procedures and OSHA guidelines within a warehouse environment.
