Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance on a wide array of geothermal power plant equipment, including steam turbines, generators, gearboxes, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Operate, monitor, and adjust plant systems via Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or SCADA to optimize plant performance, efficiency, and output while maintaining operational stability.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and control (I&C) system malfunctions to minimize plant downtime and production losses.
  • Conduct regular plant rounds and inspections, meticulously recording operational data like pressures, temperatures, levels, and flow rates, and promptly reporting any anomalies.
  • Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures with precision, adhering strictly to all company safety policies and OSHA regulations to ensure a zero-harm work environment.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and parts usage within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) like Maximo or SAP.
  • Read and interpret complex technical documentation, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical one-lines, schematics, and OEM manuals to support maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, aerial lifts, and small cranes safely and efficiently to support maintenance tasks and material handling.
  • Respond immediately to plant alarms and emergency situations, taking decisive corrective actions to stabilize operations and safeguard personnel and equipment.
  • Perform precision maintenance tasks such as laser alignment on rotating equipment to ensure longevity and reliability.
  • Calibrate and maintain a variety of instruments, including pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters, and analytical equipment to ensure accurate plant monitoring.
  • Collect and perform basic analysis on samples from geothermal brine, steam, and cooling water systems, making chemical feed adjustments as necessary to stay within specified limits.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts and critical components for assigned systems, initiating purchase requisitions to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Perform basic welding, pipefitting, and fabrication for repairs and small-scale plant modifications as qualified and required.
  • Isolate and prepare equipment and systems for maintenance work, coordinating with operations and contractors to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the planning and execution of major scheduled plant outages and equipment overhauls, coordinating activities with various teams and external contractors.
  • Assist engineering and geology teams with well-field testing and data collection to monitor and manage the geothermal reservoir.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for equipment failures and operational incidents to identify and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentorship to apprentice technicians and new team members to foster skill development across the team.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas, including workshops, control rooms, and throughout the plant, to promote an organized and safe environment.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of maintenance procedures and safety protocols to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities for new or modified plant equipment and systems.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Mechanical Maintenance & Repair: Strong aptitude for maintaining and repairing rotating equipment (turbines, pumps, compressors), hydraulics, and pneumatic systems.
  • Electrical Troubleshooting: Proficient in troubleshooting AC/DC circuits, motor controls, and electrical systems up to 480V.
  • Instrumentation & Control (I&C): Ability to install, calibrate, and troubleshoot transmitters, sensors, valves, and control loops.
  • DCS/SCADA Operation: Experience monitoring and operating industrial processes through a distributed control system or similar human-machine interface (HMI).
  • P&ID and Schematic Interpretation: The ability to read and understand technical drawings is essential for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS): Proficiency in using systems like Maximo or SAP PM for work order management and record-keeping.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in a relevant technical field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
