Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively greet and engage every guest with a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor to create an inviting atmosphere from the moment they enter.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for the brand and its merchandise, articulating the stories, features, and benefits of products to drive customer interest and sales.
  • Execute sales transactions with precision and efficiency using the Point of Sale (POS) system, accurately handling cash, credit/debit cards, gift certificates, and employee discounts.
  • Actively listen to customer needs and preferences to provide personalized recommendations and assistance, ensuring a satisfying and successful shopping experience.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to prevent theft and loss, while simultaneously being available to assist genuine shoppers.
  • Expertly manage telephone and in-person inquiries, providing accurate information about products, store hours, and promotions in a courteous manner.
  • Assist in the entire lifecycle of inventory management, from receiving and unpacking new shipments to verifying packing slips and pricing merchandise according to guidelines.
  • Implement visual merchandising directives to create attractive, compelling, and commercially effective product displays that enhance the store's aesthetic.
  • Consistently maintain the cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of the entire shop, including shelves, displays, cash wrap, and stockroom.
  • Replenish merchandise on the sales floor from the stockroom, ensuring all products are well-represented and easy for customers to access.
  • Participate in regular physical inventory counts and cycle counts, demonstrating a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Process special orders, phone orders, and online order fulfillments, including picking, packing, and arranging for shipment.
  • Build and maintain a loyal customer base by providing exceptional service, remembering repeat customers, and encouraging sign-ups for loyalty programs or newsletters.
  • Handle customer complaints and returns gracefully and professionally, following store policies to find a satisfactory resolution for the customer.
  • Contribute to achieving and exceeding individual and store-wide sales targets and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Stay informed about current sales, promotions, and special events to accurately communicate offers to customers.
  • Open and close the store according to established procedures, including balancing the cash drawer, running end-of-day reports, and securing the premises.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and management, contributing to a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Provide visitors with general information about the larger institution (e.g., exhibit locations, event schedules, facility directions), serving as a helpful resource.
  • Gift-wrap purchases upon request, demonstrating care and skill to enhance the value of the customer's purchase.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, especially those related to cash handling, safety, and customer service.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in training and onboarding new team members by demonstrating best practices and store procedures.
  • Gather and relay customer feedback and product requests to management to inform buying decisions and service improvements.
  • Support marketing initiatives by helping set up for in-store events, promotions, or holiday-themed displays.
  • Perform light cleaning duties, such as dusting, sweeping, and cleaning glass surfaces, to ensure a pristine shopping environment.

  • POS System Proficiency: Experience operating Point of Sale systems and credit card terminals.
  • Cash Handling & Management: Strong mathematical skills for accurate cash handling, making change, and reconciling a cash drawer.
