Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Actively engage with customers to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, initiating conversations to understand their specific gifting needs.
  • Utilize deep and continuously updated product knowledge of giftware, home décor, novelty items, and seasonal collections to make personalized and insightful recommendations.
  • Drive and exceed individual and departmental sales goals by employing consultative selling techniques, upselling, and cross-selling complementary products.
  • Efficiently and accurately operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, professionally handling all transactions, including sales, returns, exchanges, and special orders.
  • Maintain a visually stunning and impeccably organized department by executing visual merchandising standards, ensuring displays are abundant, clean, and correctly priced.
  • Participate actively in the receiving, unpacking, and stocking of new merchandise, ensuring products are placed on the sales floor promptly and according to planograms.
  • Proactively approach and assist customers on the sales floor, answering inquiries and providing solutions that enhance the overall customer experience and build loyalty.
  • Handle customer issues, complaints, and complex inquiries with empathy and patience, escalating to management when necessary to ensure a swift and satisfactory resolution.
  • Enthusiastically promote the company's loyalty program, private-label credit card, and other in-store events or promotions, clearly articulating the benefits to every customer.
  • Perform regular inventory duties, including cycle counts and stock adjustments, to contribute to the accuracy of the store's inventory management system.
  • Ensure all merchandise is properly tagged with correct pricing and appropriate security devices as per company policy to minimize shrink and loss.
  • Collaborate with fellow outfitters and management to foster a positive, high-energy work environment centered on teamwork, shared goals, and mutual success.
  • Uphold a safe and clean shopping environment for both customers and staff, promptly addressing any potential hazards or messes on the sales floor.
  • Participate in all required training sessions, team huddles, and store meetings to stay current on company policies, product knowledge, and sales strategies.
  • Assist with store opening and closing procedures, which may include cash handling, register reconciliation, and ensuring the department is secure and customer-ready.
  • Provide valuable feedback to the buying and management teams regarding customer preferences, product performance, and potential opportunities for assortment enhancements.
  • Manage the gift-wrapping station, providing a value-added service to customers that enhances the gift-giving experience, especially during peak seasons.
  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for the brand and the lifestyle it represents, acting as a true brand advocate in every customer and team interaction.
  • Flexibly support other departments within the store as needed during peak traffic periods or based on daily staffing requirements to ensure seamless store operations.
  • Maintain an awareness of all current promotions and advertisements, both in-store and digital, to effectively inform customers and drive traffic.
  • Adhere to all company policies and operational standards, including those related to loss prevention, safety, attendance, and professional conduct.

  • Point of Sale (POS) System Operation: Proficiency in processing sales, returns, and exchanges.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in retail, sales, or hospitality.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a specialty retail environment, particularly in giftware, home goods, apparel, or a similar high-service setting, is highly desirable. Experience as a key holder or with merchandising is a plus.
