Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Skillfully operate and maintain automated glass edging and polishing machinery, such as straight-line edgers and CNC machines, to create specified edge profiles like flat polish, pencil polish, and bevels.
Conduct meticulous visual and manual inspections of raw and finished glass panels to identify and triage imperfections such as scratches, chips, bubbles, or distortions.
Utilize precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to verify that glass dimensions, angles, and thicknesses adhere strictly to blueprint and work order specifications.
Set up and calibrate finishing machinery according to job requirements, selecting the appropriate grinding wheels, polishing pads, and coolant flow for different glass types and thicknesses.
Expertly handle large and often heavy sheets of glass using suction cups, cranes, or team lifting techniques, always prioritizing safety and product integrity.
Read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to understand the precise finishing requirements for each unique project.
Perform manual finishing tasks using hand-held sanders, grinders, and polishing tools to address intricate shapes, touch up machine-finished edges, or perform delicate repair work.
Monitor the finishing process continuously, making real-time adjustments to machine settings to ensure consistent quality and prevent defects.
Document production and quality control data accurately, logging completed jobs, material usage, and any non-conformance issues for traceability and reporting.
Prepare and stage finished glass products for the next production phase, such as tempering, laminating, or shipping, ensuring they are properly cleaned and protected.
Manage the application of seaming or arrissing to glass edges, a crucial safety step that removes sharp edges to make glass safer to handle.
Operate drilling and notching equipment to create precise cutouts and holes in glass panels as specified by architectural or design plans.
Systematically clean and maintain the work area, ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient environment free of glass shards and other hazards.
Change out worn tooling, such as diamond-impregnated wheels and polishing felts, on a regular schedule to maintain high-quality output.
Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and perform routine preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure machine longevity.
Collaborate with the production planning team to prioritize workloads and ensure that finishing tasks are completed in alignment with overall project timelines.
