Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform precision mowing of greens, tees, fairways, and rough areas using various types of specialized walk-behind and riding mowers to maintain specified heights and aesthetic quality.
  • Execute daily course setup procedures, including changing hole locations on greens, moving tee markers, and positioning course accessories like ball washers and trash receptacles.
  • Meticulously rake and maintain sand bunkers, ensuring proper sand depth, consistency, and clean edges for optimal playability.
  • Operate a variety of light and heavy-duty equipment, including tractors, loaders, aerators, and utility vehicles, for turf maintenance and project work.
  • Assist in the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and other turf care products under the direct supervision of a licensed applicator.
  • Participate in aerification, topdressing, and overseeding processes to promote the long-term health and density of the turfgrass.
  • Perform detailed trimming, weeding, and cultivation of landscape beds, trees, and shrubs around the course and clubhouse.
  • Edge cart paths, bunkers, and landscape beds to maintain sharp, clean lines and definition throughout the property.
  • Conduct daily pre-operation checks on all equipment, ensuring proper fuel and fluid levels, and report any mechanical issues to the Equipment Manager.
  • Assist with irrigation system maintenance, including hand-watering dry spots, repairing sprinkler heads, and checking for leaks.
  • Lay and repair sod in damaged areas to ensure rapid turf recovery and seamless playing surfaces.
  • Remove debris, leaves, and other obstructions from playing surfaces, drainage areas, and waterways.
  • Participate actively in various golf course improvement projects, such as sodding, drainage installation, and landscape construction.
  • Operate turf rollers to ensure smooth and true putting surfaces on the greens.
  • Verticut and groom turf surfaces to manage thatch, control grain, and improve turf health.
  • Fill divots on tees and fairways with sand and seed mix to promote quick healing and maintain turf integrity.
  • Monitor course conditions for signs of disease, insect infestation, or environmental stress and report findings to a supervisor.
  • Safely mix and load turf care products into application equipment according to label instructions and safety protocols.
  • Perform manual labor tasks, including digging, lifting, and carrying materials as needed for various projects.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and the team.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while interacting with golfers and other club staff on the course.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with course setup and breakdown for tournaments, member events, and corporate outings.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the maintenance facility, fuel station, and equipment storage areas.
  • Safely operate utility vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and personnel across the course property.
  • Support landscape enhancement projects, including planting annual flowers, mulching beds, and minor pruning.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Operation of specialized turf equipment (greens mowers, fairway mowers, aerators, etc.).
  • Knowledge of basic landscaping and horticultural practices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Understanding of irrigation systems, including sprinkler head adjustment and basic repair.
  • Experience with bunker maintenance techniques, including raking and edging.
  • Safe operation of utility vehicles and small engine equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of turfgrass management principles.
  • Ability to calibrate and operate fertilizer or seed spreaders.
  • Proper handling of tools such as shovels, rakes, trimmers, and blowers.
  • Familiarity with golf course etiquette and the rules of golf.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or Associate's Degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or a related field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 0-2 years of experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or a related field.
