Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design and deliver comprehensive golf instruction programs for individuals and groups of all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to competitive players.
  • Conduct private lessons, group clinics, junior golf camps, and specialized workshops focusing on various aspects of the game, including full swing, short game, putting, and course management.
  • Utilize modern teaching technology, such as video swing analysis (e.g., V1, TrackMan, Foresight), launch monitors, and 3D motion capture systems to provide data-driven, actionable feedback.
  • Develop personalized lesson plans and long-term player development programs tailored to the specific goals, physical abilities, and learning styles of each student.
  • Assess player skills and on-course performance through systematic observation and skills testing to identify areas for improvement and track progress over time.
  • Teach the official rules of golf, proper course etiquette, and the principles of sportsmanship to ensure students develop a holistic understanding and respect for the game's traditions.
  • Maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the latest golf instruction methodologies, swing theories, biomechanics, and sports psychology principles.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and safe learning environment that motivates students, builds their confidence, and makes the learning process enjoyable.
  • Provide expert club fitting and equipment recommendations using industry-standard fitting tools to ensure students are playing with gear optimized for their swing and physique.
  • Organize and lead on-course playing lessons to teach practical course management, strategy, shot selection, and mental game techniques in a real-world setting.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with students to set realistic expectations, deliver constructive feedback, and celebrate their achievements and milestones.
  • Adapt teaching styles and communication methods to effectively connect with a diverse clientele, including juniors, women, seniors, and corporate groups.

Secondary Functions

  • Actively promote and sell instructional programs, lesson packages, and golf clinics to members and guests to drive departmental revenue and increase participation.
  • Assist in the management and organization of club tournaments, leagues, and special golf events, which can include scoring, rules officiating, and prize presentations.
  • Efficiently manage the lesson booking system, maintain an accurate personal schedule, and handle billing and payments for all instructional services in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with the golf shop team to support merchandising efforts, assisting customers with equipment purchasing decisions and facilitating special orders.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional teaching area, ensuring all training aids, technology, and equipment are in excellent working order.
  • Contribute creative content for club marketing and communication channels, such as newsletters, social media posts, and website articles, to promote golf instruction and events.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive professional relationships with club members, guests, and fellow staff to foster a welcoming and service-oriented community culture.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to stay current with club policies, industry trends, and further your own expertise.
  • Oversee practice facility operations as needed, ensuring an adequate supply of quality range balls and a high standard of presentation and service for players.
  • Represent the club or facility in a highly professional manner while participating in pro-am events, community outreach programs, and other official functions.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert Knowledge of Golf Swing Mechanics: A deep, technical understanding of various swing theories and the ability to diagnose and correct faults effectively.
  • Proficiency with Golf Instruction Technology: Hands-on experience with modern tools like TrackMan, Foresight GCQuad, V1 Pro, BodiTrak, or similar launch monitors and video analysis software.
  • Professional Club Fitting Expertise: The ability to conduct a thorough equipment fitting for all clubs in the bag, from driver to putter.
  • Strong Grasp of the Rules of Golf: Comprehensive knowledge of the official USGA/R&A Rules of Golf and the ability to apply them in tournament and casual settings.
  • PGA or LPGA Certification: Holding a Class A certification from the PGA of America or the LPGA, or being an active, progressing apprentice in good standing.
  • Tournament & Event Operations: Familiarity with golf tournament software (e.g., Golf Genius) and the logistics of running successful events.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Professional Golf Management (PGM)
  • Kinesiology or Sports Science

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

2-5 years of documented experience in a golf instruction role or as an Assistant Golf Professional with significant teaching responsibilities.

Preferred:

A proven track record of successful player development, demonstrable business growth in a lesson book, and prior experience at a private club, high-end resort, or respected golf academy.
