Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet and welcome all members and guests upon their arrival, establishing a warm and professional atmosphere and setting the tone for their entire visit.
  • Execute the daily check-in process for golfers, verifying tee times, collecting applicable fees for green fees, cart fees, and rentals, and providing clear instructions for their round.
  • Manage the tee sheet with precision, skillfully booking, confirming, modifying, and canceling reservations for members and the public via phone, online systems, and in-person requests.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all incoming phone calls to the golf shop, professionally handling inquiries, directing calls, and taking detailed messages.
  • Actively engage customers on the sales floor to drive merchandise sales, providing expert advice on apparel, equipment, and accessories to meet their needs.
  • Process all sales transactions accurately and efficiently using the Point of Sale (POS) system, including handling cash, credit card payments, and member charges.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all golf shop products and services, including membership options, upcoming events, and special promotions, to effectively upsell and inform guests.
  • Assist golfers with special orders for equipment and apparel, managing the process from initial inquiry and vendor contact to order placement and customer notification.
  • Oversee the golf club rental program, ensuring clubs are clean, in good repair, and properly checked out and returned according to club procedures.
  • Communicate course conditions, pace of play expectations, and local rules to all players before their round to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone on the course.
  • Address and resolve member and guest concerns, complaints, or questions promptly and professionally, escalating issues to management when necessary.
  • Maintain the visual presentation of the pro shop by ensuring merchandise is attractively displayed, well-organized, and consistently restocked from backstock.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the merchandise manager with receiving, unpacking, pricing, and ticketing new inventory shipments according to established guidelines.
  • Participate in regular physical inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure the accuracy of stock levels and help identify discrepancies.
  • Support the coordination and execution of golf tournaments and special events by assisting with registration, scoring, and prize distribution.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the entire golf shop, including the sales floor, counter space, storage areas, and fitting rooms.
  • Collaborate with the outside services team to ensure seamless communication regarding player arrivals, cart staging, and pace of play.
  • Promote and register players for club-sponsored clinics, lessons, and other golf programs, providing detailed information to interested participants.
  • Assist in managing the club's handicap system, including posting scores for members and educating players on proper handicap procedures.
  • Contribute to opening and closing procedures for the golf shop, including cash reconciliation, end-of-day reporting, and securing the facility.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Proficiency in operating retail POS software for sales transactions, returns, and daily reporting.
  • Tee Sheet Management Software: Experience with golf-specific scheduling systems (e.g., ForeTees, EZLinks, Clubessential) to manage reservations.
  • Cash Handling & Reconciliation: Strong ability to accurately handle cash, process credit card payments, and balance a cash drawer at the end of a shift.
  • Inventory Control: Basic understanding of inventory management principles, including receiving, ticketing, and cycle counting.
  • Golf Equipment Knowledge: Foundational knowledge of golf club brands, ball types, and apparel technology to assist customers effectively.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Competency in using basic applications like Word, Excel, and Outlook for communication and simple reporting.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a customer-facing role.

Preferred:
