Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive practice and training schedules, focusing on both individual skill development and overall team performance.
  • Provide expert, individualized coaching and instruction to student-athletes on all aspects of the game, including swing mechanics, short game, course management, and mental strategy.
  • Develop and execute a strategic, year-round recruiting plan to identify, evaluate, and attract high-caliber student-athletes who align with the program's academic and athletic standards.
  • Manage all logistical aspects of team travel, including transportation, lodging, meals, and entry fees for tournaments and competitions.
  • Scout opponents and analyze performance data to develop effective tournament strategies and in-game adjustments.
  • Actively monitor and support the academic progress of all student-athletes, working closely with academic advisors to ensure eligibility and progress toward graduation.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, personal responsibility, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Develop, propose, and meticulously manage the annual team budget, including allocations for recruiting, travel, equipment, and other operational expenses.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations, maintaining thorough documentation and promoting a culture of compliance.
  • Conduct regular individual meetings with players to discuss their athletic, academic, and personal development, setting goals and providing constructive feedback.
  • Plan and supervise team conditioning and strength training programs in coordination with the athletic department's strength and conditioning staff.
  • Establish and communicate clear team policies, expectations, and standards of conduct for all team members.
  • Supervise, mentor, and delegate responsibilities to assistant coaches and other support staff to ensure a cohesive and efficient coaching unit.
  • Represent the golf program and the institution with professionalism and integrity at all public-facing events, media interviews, and community engagements.

Secondary Functions

  • Collaborate with the athletic development and fundraising offices to identify and cultivate relationships with alumni, boosters, and potential donors.
  • Oversee the selection, procurement, and inventory management of all team apparel, equipment, and training technology.
  • Coordinate with the sports information department to facilitate media coverage, update the team website, and manage social media presence to promote the program.
  • Organize and direct community service initiatives and outreach activities for the team, fostering a sense of civic responsibility.
  • Plan and execute summer camps, clinics, or other instructional programs to generate revenue and promote the sport in the local community.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, professional development workshops, and institutional committees as required.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with other coaches, athletic administrators, and university staff to support the overall mission of the athletic department.
  • Stay current with emerging trends, technologies (like launch monitors and video analysis), and coaching methodologies within the sport of golf.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience playing golf at the collegiate or professional level is highly advantageous.
