Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately interpret picking tickets and order forms to select the correct products and quantities from designated warehouse locations.
- Meticulously inspect each item for any damage, defects, or inconsistencies before packing to uphold strict quality control standards.
- Choose the most suitable packing materials, including various box sizes, mailers, bubble wrap, air pillows, and foam inserts, based on product fragility, size, and weight.
- Expertly wrap, cushion, and arrange items within containers to maximize protection and prevent movement or damage during shipping and handling.
- Efficiently assemble, fold, and securely seal cartons and packages using manual tape guns, automated taping machines, and other closing materials.
- Precisely weigh packages using digital scales and correctly apply computer-generated shipping labels, postage, and any required handling stickers (e.g., "Fragile," "This Way Up").
- Systematically verify that all order details on the packing slip match the physical items and the shipping label to ensure 100% order accuracy.
- Operate handheld RF scanners and other warehouse technology to update order statuses, track inventory movements, and confirm task completion within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Organize, stack, and stage completed packages in the correct outbound area, sorted by carrier or shipping method, for seamless pickup and dispatch.
- Consistently maintain a clean, organized, and safe personal workspace, which includes replenishing packing supplies and disposing of waste materials properly.
- Adhere rigorously to all company safety protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and OSHA guidelines to foster a secure working environment.
- Work with a sense of urgency to consistently meet or exceed established hourly and daily packing quotas without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
- Prepare, palletize, and shrink-wrap large or bulk shipments, ensuring the pallet is stable, secure, and properly labeled for freight transport.
- Actively communicate and collaborate with team members across departments, including pickers, stockers, and supervisors, to ensure a fluid and efficient workflow from order receipt to dispatch.
- Promptly report any issues such as inventory discrepancies, equipment malfunctions, potential safety hazards, or product quality concerns to the warehouse lead or supervisor.
Secondary Functions
- Participate in regular inventory cycle counts and assist with full physical inventory audits to help maintain precise stock records.
- Provide support to the receiving team during peak times by helping to unload trucks, sort incoming goods, and stock inventory.
- Conduct random quality assurance checks on both incoming components and outgoing packages to support the broader quality control function.
- Proactively identify and suggest process improvements that could enhance packing efficiency, reduce material waste, or improve workplace safety.
- Prepare and manage essential shipping documentation, such as packing lists, bills of lading, and commercial invoices, especially for freight or international orders.
