Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Actively assist Site and Project Managers with the day-to-day operational management of construction sites, ensuring the project program is maintained and milestones are met.
  • Diligently interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to ensure construction is executed in full compliance with design intent.
  • Proactively coordinate the activities of subcontractors, suppliers, and direct labor, managing their schedules and ensuring efficient workflow on site.
  • Champion and enforce stringent on-site health and safety protocols, conducting regular safety walks, toolbox talks, and risk assessments to cultivate a zero-harm environment.
  • Implement and manage rigorous quality assurance and control systems, conducting inspections and checks to ensure all works meet or exceed specified quality standards.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, and updating of the master construction schedule using software like MS Project or Asta Powerproject.
  • Meticulously maintain site records, including daily diaries, progress photos, material delivery dockets, and records of on-site conversations and instructions.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the site team, project consultants (architects, engineers), and the client, ensuring all parties are informed of progress and issues.
  • Support the commercial team by assisting with the tracking of project costs, processing invoices, and assessing subcontractor payment claims and variations.
  • Take responsibility for procurement and timely delivery of materials and equipment to the site, ensuring nothing impedes the flow of work.
  • Proactively identify and resolve on-site issues, clashes, or discrepancies in documentation by collaborating with the design team and senior site staff.
  • Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process, ensuring questions from subcontractors are clearly documented and responses are received and distributed promptly.
  • Oversee specific packages of work from start to finish under the supervision of a mentor, taking ownership of a section of the project.
  • Prepare and contribute to regular project progress reports for senior management and clients, detailing site activities, progress against schedule, and safety performance.
  • Learn and apply fundamental principles of contract administration, understanding the obligations and entitlements under the head contract and subcontracts.
  • Coordinate and witness site inspections with Building Surveyors, engineers, and other authorities to ensure regulatory compliance and achieve necessary approvals.
  • Manage the defect identification and rectification process during the latter stages of the project, ensuring a smooth and efficient handover.
  • Participate in site meetings, preparing agendas, taking detailed minutes, and ensuring action items are followed up and closed out.
  • Assist in the preparation of site-specific management plans, including traffic management, environmental control, and waste management plans.
  • Engage in continuous professional development by actively seeking feedback, asking questions, and taking every opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues.

  • Assist senior management with ad-hoc project reporting and data analysis to track progress against key performance indicators.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Plan & Drawing Interpretation: Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex architectural, structural, and service drawings and specifications.
  • Construction Programming: Proficiency or strong aptitude for learning scheduling software such as MS Project, Asta Powerproject, or Primavera P6.
  • Surveying & Set-Out: Foundational knowledge of site set-out and surveying techniques using tools like dumpy levels, laser levels, and total stations.
  • Quality Assurance & Control: Understanding of QA/QC principles and the ability to implement inspection and test plans (ITPs).
  • Safety Management Systems: Knowledge of Work Health & Safety (WHS/OH&S) legislation and the practical application of safety procedures on a construction site.
  • Cost Management: Basic understanding of project cost tracking, budget management, and variation assessment.
  • Contract Administration: Familiarity with the basics of construction contracts and the administration of subcontractor agreements.
  • Technical Reporting: Ability to write clear and concise daily diaries, progress reports, and formal communications like RFIs.
  • Building Codes & Standards: Awareness and ability to reference relevant National Construction Codes (NCC/BCA) and Australian Standards.
  • Digital Construction Tools: Competency in using project management software (e.g., Procore, Aconex) and familiarity with CAD or BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) is highly advantageous.

Experience Requirements
