Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute a wide range of routine and complex laboratory tests and procedures with precision and accuracy, following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Meticulously prepare, label, and manage biological samples, chemical reagents, and culture media required for various experimental protocols.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on sophisticated laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, centrifuges, PCR machines, and microscopes to ensure optimal performance.
- Diligently record all experimental data, observations, and results in physical lab notebooks and electronic Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) with a high degree of detail.
- Perform fundamental data analysis using software like Microsoft Excel or GraphPad Prism, including generating graphs and tables to summarize experimental outcomes.
- Assist senior scientists and researchers in the design, setup, and execution of complex experiments, contributing to the overall research goals of the team.
- Strictly adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals, biological waste, and sharp objects to maintain a safe working environment.
- Troubleshoot common issues with experimental protocols and laboratory equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions with guidance from senior staff.
- Maintain and manage laboratory inventory by monitoring stock levels of consumables and reagents, placing orders for new supplies, and receiving/storing incoming materials.
- Conduct quality control checks on reagents, equipment, and processes to ensure the reliability and reproducibility of experimental data.
- Perform and document aseptic techniques for cell culture maintenance, including sub-culturing, cryopreservation, and contamination screening.
- Prepare detailed technical summaries and reports of experimental findings for internal review and contribute to the drafting of scientific publications.
- Isolate DNA/RNA from various sample types and perform downstream molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis.
- Carry out protein analysis techniques, including western blotting, ELISA, and other immunoassays, to quantify or detect specific proteins.
- Actively participate in team meetings, presenting data, discussing challenges, and contributing to experimental planning and strategy sessions.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the general lab space, including benchtops, shared equipment areas, and storage facilities.
- Stay current with relevant scientific literature and new laboratory techniques to support continuous improvement and innovation within the lab.
- Assist in the validation of new analytical methods and the development or revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Manage and archive experimental samples and data according to established laboratory and regulatory guidelines for future reference and traceability.
