Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute routine and scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, fluid flushes, tire rotations, and multi-point inspections, to ensure vehicle reliability and longevity.
Assist senior mechanics and master technicians in diagnosing complex powertrain, electrical, and chassis system malfunctions using a systematic and logical approach.
Operate and interpret data from advanced diagnostic scan tools and computer-based equipment to accurately identify fault codes and system performance issues.
Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections based on manufacturer guidelines and dealership checklists to identify safety concerns and opportunities for preventative maintenance.
Diligently and accurately document all services performed, parts installed, and diagnostic findings on digital and paper repair orders for customer records and workshop history.
Carry out fundamental repair tasks such as replacing brake pads, rotors, calipers, and hydraulic lines to restore vehicle stopping power.
Service and repair suspension and steering components, including struts, shock absorbers, control arms, and tie rod ends, ensuring proper vehicle handling.
Gain hands-on experience with exhaust system repairs, from catalytic converter replacement to muffler and pipe fitting.
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, organization, and safety within the assigned work bay and the broader workshop environment.
Communicate clearly and professionally with service advisors, parts specialists, and fellow technicians to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
Actively participate in manufacturer-led and in-house training sessions to continuously advance technical knowledge on emerging automotive technologies, including hybrid and electric vehicles.
Conduct precise wheel alignment and tire balancing procedures using modern alignment racks and balancing machines to optimize tire life and vehicle stability.
Support senior staff with major component work, such as engine and transmission removal, inspection, and reinstallation, following strict procedural guidelines.
Perform post-repair road tests to verify that all customer concerns have been addressed and that the vehicle operates according to factory specifications.
Manage the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous workshop materials, including used oil, coolant, and brake fluid, in compliance with environmental regulations.
Utilize official service manuals, wiring diagrams, and online technical databases to research and confirm proper repair strategies for a wide variety of vehicle makes and models.
Inspect and top-off all vital vehicle fluids, including coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid, as part of a standard service.
Replace belts, hoses, and filters according to manufacturer maintenance schedules or as identified during vehicle inspections.
Develop proficiency in servicing vehicle air conditioning systems, including refrigerant evacuation, recharge, and component replacement under supervision.
Learn to perform basic welding and fabrication tasks as required for specific repairs under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Calibrate and maintain workshop tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order and provide accurate readings.

Secondary Functions

Support the parts department in identifying and sourcing correct components for repairs.
Contribute to maintaining workshop equipment through regular checks and minor servicing.
Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of common shop supplies and consumables.
Participate in daily team meetings to discuss workflow improvements, review complex cases, and address safety topics.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Fundamental Vehicle Systems Knowledge: Strong understanding of internal combustion engines, transmissions, braking, steering, and suspension systems.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent, coupled with a certificate or diploma from an accredited automotive technology program.

Preferred Education:

Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology or a related technical field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

0-2 years of hands-on experience, which can include internships, co-op programs, vocational training, or significant personal/hobbyist projects.
