Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, storyboard, and execute high-quality 2D and 3D motion graphics and animations for various digital platforms, including web, social media, and internal communications.
  • Translate complex ideas, project briefs, and creative concepts into visually compelling and easy-to-understand animated narratives.
  • Collaborate closely with creative directors, art directors, marketers, and other stakeholders to develop a visual approach and ensure the final product aligns with project goals.
  • Design and animate a wide range of graphical elements, such as logos, typography, iconography, and data visualizations, maintaining strict adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Edit raw video footage and expertly integrate animated graphics, titles, lower thirds, and special effects to create a polished and cohesive final video product.
  • Manage the entire animation production pipeline, from pre-production tasks like creating style frames and animatics to post-production, including compositing, rendering, and final delivery.
  • Uphold and champion the brand's identity and visual language, ensuring all animated content produced is consistent, high-quality, and on-brand across all channels.
  • Develop and maintain a well-organized library of reusable animation assets, project templates, and graphical elements to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Actively research and stay informed on the latest industry trends, cutting-edge techniques, and emerging technologies in motion graphics, animation, and visual design.
  • Optimize and export animation files for a multitude of platforms, considering technical specifications like file size, aspect ratios, and performance for web, mobile, and broadcast.
  • Skillfully interpret and incorporate feedback from stakeholders throughout the review process, performing revisions to ensure the final animation meets and exceeds expectations.
  • Take a proactive role in creative brainstorming sessions, contributing innovative ideas for new video concepts, campaigns, and storytelling opportunities.
  • Manage multiple animation projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritizing tasks and ensuring all project deadlines are met.
  • Create expressive character animations, imbuing illustrated figures with personality, emotion, and believable movement for narrative-driven content.
  • Develop animated prototypes and mockups to help visualize and communicate user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) interactions for digital products.
  • Collaborate with audio engineers or select appropriate stock music and sound effects to create a complete audio-visual experience that enhances the animation.
  • Perform color correction, grading, and finishing on video and animated sequences to achieve a cohesive, professional, and cinematic aesthetic.
  • Prepare and confidently present concepts, storyboards, and works-in-progress to internal teams and external clients for review, feedback, and approval.
  • Rig characters and objects for animation, establishing skeletons, controls, and deformers to facilitate efficient and fluid movement.
  • Archive and meticulously organize project files, source assets, and final deliverables according to established studio protocols for future use and reference.

Secondary Functions

  • Mentor and provide constructive guidance to junior animators, interns, or other creative team members.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the organization's visual identity and brand animation guidelines.
  • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new animation software, plugins, and hardware.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe After Effects for motion graphics, compositing, and visual effects.
  • Strong command of Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing, sequencing, and integrating animated elements.
  • High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for creating and preparing vector and raster assets for animation.
  • Demonstrable experience with at least one major 3D software package, such as Cinema 4D, Blender, or Maya, for modeling, texturing, and animation.
  • A deep understanding and practical application of the core principles of animation (timing, easing, squash and stretch, etc.).
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a keen eye for visual design fundamentals, including typography, color theory, layout, and composition.
  • Proven ability in storyboarding, developing style frames, and creating animatics to pre-visualize a project.
  • Technical knowledge of video codecs, file formats (e.g., MP4, MOV), and best practices for exporting and optimizing video for web and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with popular third-party plugins for After Effects, such as Red Giant's Trapcode Suite, Maxon's Universe, or Video Copilot's Element 3D.
  • Experience with character rigging and the ability to bring 2D or 3D characters to life with believable motion.
