Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Actively perform general cleanup and housekeeping duties, including shoveling, sweeping, and washing down equipment and plant areas to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
- Assist heavy equipment operators by acting as a spotter, using standardized hand signals to guide machinery safely and prevent accidents.
- Operate and maintain water trucks or sprinkler systems to control dust on haul roads, stockpiles, and processing areas, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling and raking gravel, sand, and other aggregates to assist in site preparation, maintenance, and material blending.
- Safely operate a variety of small hand tools and power tools, including drills, grinders, pressure washers, and compactors, for maintenance and operational tasks.
- Conduct routine pre-shift inspections on tools and assigned light equipment to ensure they are in safe, working order, reporting any defects immediately.
- Assist maintenance personnel during plant shutdowns or repairs, which may involve tasks like changing screens, replacing conveyor belt rollers, and greasing machinery.
- Monitor the flow of materials on conveyor belts, clearing jams and blockages in a safe and prescribed manner to maintain continuous production.
- Ensure all work is performed in strict compliance with company policies and all local, state, and federal safety regulations, including MSHA and OSHA standards.
- Actively participate in all scheduled safety meetings, training sessions, and pre-shift huddles, contributing to a culture of safety-first.
- Guide and direct truck traffic within the pit or yard to ensure safe and efficient loading and unloading procedures.
- Perform regular grounds maintenance, including mowing, weed trimming, and clearing debris from the property line and around the plant.
- Assist in the assembly and disassembly of plant components, such as conveyors, chutes, and support structures, under the supervision of senior staff.
- Handle and store materials and supplies properly, ensuring they are secured and accessible when needed.
- Maintain constant awareness of moving equipment, changing site conditions, and other potential hazards in a busy industrial environment.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, equipment operators, and other team members via two-way radio or in person to coordinate tasks.
- Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance tasks on plant equipment, such as lubricating moving parts and tightening loose fittings.
- Operate small mobile equipment like skid steers or utility vehicles after receiving proper training and certification.
- Collect and prepare material samples for the quality control team to test, ensuring product specifications are being met.
- Respond to various operational needs as they arise, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to perform other duties as assigned by the site supervisor.
