Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Directly supervise and coordinate the daily activities of plant employees, including crusher operators, loader operators, and general laborers, to ensure production targets are met safely and efficiently.
  • Champion a culture of safety by enforcing all MSHA/OSHA regulations, conducting regular safety meetings (toolbox talks), performing site inspections, and ensuring all personnel wear appropriate PPE.
  • Develop and implement daily and weekly production schedules to align with sales orders, inventory levels, and maintenance requirements, optimizing plant run-time and material throughput.
  • Oversee the entire production process from raw material extraction and hauling to crushing, screening, washing, and stockpiling of finished aggregate products.
  • Monitor plant operations and equipment performance, making real-time adjustments to feed rates, screen settings, and crusher settings to maximize efficiency and product quality.
  • Implement and manage a comprehensive quality control program, ensuring all products meet or exceed customer specifications and industry standards through regular sampling, testing, and gradation analysis.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule and oversee preventative, predictive, and emergency maintenance on all fixed and mobile plant equipment to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
  • Manage and control operating costs within the approved budget, including labor, overtime, supplies, parts, and fuel, and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records for production volume, employee hours, safety incidents, equipment maintenance, and inventory levels, preparing daily and weekly reports for management.
  • Train, mentor, and develop plant personnel, providing ongoing feedback, conducting performance reviews, and identifying opportunities for skill enhancement and career growth.
  • Troubleshoot operational and mechanical issues within the plant, leading root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage stockpile inventories, ensuring proper segregation of products, accurate volume tracking, and efficient loading operations for customer trucks.
  • Foster positive relationships with vendors, contractors, and trucking companies to ensure reliable service and timely delivery of supplies and transport.
  • Ensure the plant and surrounding property are maintained in a clean, organized, and environmentally compliant manner, adhering to all permit conditions and reclamation plans.
  • Lead the response to any emergencies, accidents, or incidents on-site, following established procedures and ensuring proper notification and documentation.

  • Participate in budget preparation and capital expenditure planning by providing input on equipment needs, operational improvements, and future production requirements.
  • Assist the sales and dispatch team by providing up-to-date information on product availability, production capacity, and loading times.

  • Ensure all environmental reporting and compliance tasks are completed accurately and on time, including water discharge monitoring and dust control measures.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Aggregate Production Expertise: Deep, hands-on understanding of crushing, screening, and washing processes and equipment (e.g., jaw crushers, cone crushers, impactors, screen decks).
  • MSHA/OSHA Regulations: In-depth knowledge of federal and state mine safety and health regulations and the ability to implement them effectively in a practical setting.
  • Heavy Equipment Knowledge: Strong familiarity with the operation, capabilities, and basic maintenance of heavy mobile equipment such as wheel loaders, haul trucks, and excavators.
  • Quality Control & Testing: Proficiency in aggregate sampling and testing procedures (e.g., gradation, moisture content) to ensure product specifications are met.
  • Preventative Maintenance Planning: Ability to develop, schedule, and execute effective maintenance plans for both fixed and mobile plant equipment to maximize reliability.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in the aggregates, mining, or heavy construction industry.
