Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Collect, aggregate, and meticulously validate large-scale environmental data sets, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy and water consumption, waste generation, and recycling rates from various global sources.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of sustainability data to identify key trends, performance gaps, and opportunities for resource efficiency and cost savings.
  • Lead the calculation of the company's carbon footprint (Scope 1, 2, and 3) in accordance with the GHG Protocol and other relevant standards.
  • Prepare and contribute to the development of comprehensive annual sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage data submissions for key third-party ESG reporting frameworks and ratings agencies, such as CDP, GRI, SASB, and TCFD.
  • Develop and maintain dynamic dashboards and data visualizations using tools like Tableau or Power BI to communicate sustainability performance to leadership and other business units.
  • Perform detailed life cycle assessments (LCAs) for key products or services to evaluate their environmental impact from cradle-to-grave and identify improvement hotspots.
  • Research and stay abreast of emerging sustainability trends, environmental regulations, reporting standards, and best practices to ensure company compliance and leadership.
  • Benchmark the company's environmental performance against industry peers and best-in-class organizations to inform strategy and target setting.
  • Support the development and tracking of science-based targets and other long-term environmental goals, including net-zero and water neutrality commitments.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to gather supplier data and assess the environmental performance of our value chain.
  • Develop compelling business cases for sustainability initiatives by quantifying potential environmental benefits and financial returns on investment (ROI).
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from investors, customers, and other stakeholders regarding the company's environmental performance and strategy.
  • Support internal and external assurance processes for sustainability data to ensure the highest level of accuracy and credibility.
  • Analyze climate-related physical and transition risks and opportunities, providing data-driven input for corporate risk management and strategy.
  • Translate complex environmental regulations and policies into practical business implications and actionable recommendations.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Finance, Legal, and Marketing, to embed sustainability thinking and data collection processes throughout the organization.
  • Manage and optimize the use of sustainability data management software and platforms to streamline reporting and analysis.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and impactful presentations and reports for senior management to facilitate informed decision-making on environmental matters.
  • Identify and evaluate innovative technologies and methodologies for improving environmental data measurement and management.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis from various business units.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • ESG Reporting Frameworks: Deep knowledge of major frameworks like GRI, SASB, TCFD, and CDP.
  • GHG Accounting: Proficiency in applying the GHG Protocol for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculations.
  • Data Analysis & Modeling: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis.
  • Data Visualization: Experience creating compelling dashboards and reports with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio.
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): Understanding of LCA principles and familiarity with software like SimaPro or GaBi is a strong plus.
  • SQL: Ability to write queries to extract and manipulate data from relational databases.
  • Statistical Analysis: Competency in using statistical methods to analyze data; experience with Python or R for data analysis is highly valued.
  • Sustainability Software: Familiarity with ESG data management platforms (e.g., Enablon, Sphera, Workiva).

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 2-5 years in a role focused on environmental data analysis, corporate sustainability, ESG reporting, or environmental consulting.

Preferred: Direct, hands-on experience in a corporate sustainability department, managing data for public ESG disclosures and interacting with various ESG rating agencies. Experience in a publicly-traded company is a significant asset.
