Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate and maintain advanced digital and offset printing presses to produce high-quality greeting card runs, ensuring color accuracy and print clarity.
  • Set up, calibrate, and run a variety of finishing equipment, including die-cutters, foil stampers, embossers, and scoring machines, to apply intricate details and textures.
  • Conduct rigorous and meticulous in-process quality control checks at every stage of production to identify and correct any deviations from design specifications or quality standards.
  • Perform detailed prepress reviews of digital artwork files, checking for proper color profiles (CMYK/Pantone), resolution, bleed, and layout to ensure print-readiness.
  • Execute precise color matching against approved proofs and design standards, making necessary adjustments to ink levels and press settings to achieve consistent results.
  • Manage and troubleshoot the full lifecycle of a production job, from interpreting complex work orders to final finishing and assembly.
  • Collaborate directly with the graphic design and product development teams to provide technical feedback on the manufacturability of new card designs and special features.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on all production machinery to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of various paper stocks, weights, coatings, and finishes, selecting the appropriate materials to achieve the desired look and feel of the final product.
  • Accurately document production data, including material consumption, machine settings, production times, and waste percentages for analysis and process improvement.
  • Manage the workflow and production schedule for assigned jobs, ensuring all deadlines are met without compromising the integrity of the product.
  • Uphold and enforce all workplace safety protocols and environmental regulations within the production environment, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Execute complex finishing tasks such as glitter application, ribbon attachment, pop-up assembly, and other hand-finishing work with precision and care.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to production efficiency, material waste, and machine performance.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap by providing accurate and timely production metrics.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements, such as developing new tracking methods for production materials.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team if integrated with broader data initiatives.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of junior technicians or new team members on standard operating procedures and equipment use.
  • Liaise with material suppliers and vendors to test new substrates, inks, and foils, providing detailed feedback on their performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing throughput, reducing costs, and enhancing product quality.
  • Manage the organization and archiving of physical production samples and proofs for quality assurance and historical reference.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Print Production Expertise: Deep knowledge of digital (e.g., HP Indigo) and offset printing processes, including press setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Finishing Equipment Operation: Hands-on experience with die-cutting, foil stamping, embossing, scoring, and folding machinery.
  • Prepress & Color Management: Proficiency in reviewing and preparing files for print, with a strong understanding of CMYK, spot colors (Pantone), and color calibration techniques.
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Competency in using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop for file inspection and minor adjustments.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to understand, operate, and perform basic maintenance on complex production equipment.
  • Materials Knowledge: In-depth understanding of different paper stocks, substrates, inks, and specialty finishes and how they interact during production.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 2-5 years of direct, hands-on experience in a professional printing or high-quality manufacturing environment.

Preferred: Specific experience within the social expressions, specialty packaging, or commercial printing industries is highly desirable. A portfolio of work or a list of operated machinery may be requested.
