Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Unload and break down merchandise from delivery trucks, accurately verifying shipments against invoices and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Efficiently transport and stage products from the backroom to their designated aisles and departments throughout the store.
  • Stock shelves, coolers, freezers, and displays with new merchandise, ensuring all items are placed in their correct location according to planograms.
  • Execute proper product rotation using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method to ensure product freshness and minimize waste.
  • Meticulously face and front all products on shelves and displays to create a full, neat, and visually appealing shopping experience for customers.
  • Identify and remove any expired, damaged, or spoiled products from the sales floor and backroom, following company procedures for disposal or credits.
  • Build and maintain attractive promotional and seasonal displays as directed by management to drive sales and highlight key items.
  • Maintain price integrity by ensuring all products are accurately scanned, priced, and signed, and applying new price tags or labels as needed.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as manual/electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, and dollies in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate and maintain the cardboard baler and trash compactor, ensuring a clean and hazard-free backroom environment.
  • Perform comprehensive cleaning duties, including sweeping and mopping floors, dusting shelves, and cleaning up spills and breakage promptly.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the backroom storage areas, warehouse, and receiving dock to ensure a safe and efficient workspace.
  • Communicate effectively with the Night Crew Lead and daytime management regarding stock levels, out-of-stock items, and any issues encountered during the shift.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, food safety standards, and loss prevention policies to protect self, team members, and company assets.
  • Work collaboratively with the overnight team to complete all assigned tasks within the scheduled shift, often under tight deadlines.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the few late-night or early-morning customers with locating products or answering basic inquiries in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with cycle counts, physical inventory preparations, and other stock-auditing tasks.
  • Recondition and organize "go-backs" or "abandons" left at the registers or throughout the store, returning items to their proper homes.
  • Prepare the store for opening, which may include final floor sweeps, ensuring shopping carts are available, and turning on specified lights or equipment.
  • Provide support to other departments as needed during the overnight shift, demonstrating flexibility and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Assemble or break down shelving and fixtures as part of store resets or remodels under the guidance of a supervisor.
  • Monitor store conditions for potential safety hazards, such as wet floors or obstructions, and take immediate corrective action.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Pallet Jack Operation: Proficiency in safely operating both manual and electric pallet jacks for moving heavy loads.
  • Inventory Knowledge: Basic understanding of inventory control principles, including FIFO rotation and cycle counts.
  • Safety Compliance: Knowledge of workplace safety procedures (e.g., proper lifting techniques, handling cleaning chemicals).
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to operate a cardboard baler, trash compactor, and potentially floor cleaning machines.
  • Planogram Interpretation: Skill in reading and following planograms or schematics for product placement and display building.
  • Basic Math Skills: Competency in performing simple calculations for counting inventory and verifying shipments.

  • Physical Stamina & Strength: Ability to frequently lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 lbs and be on your feet for the entire shift.
