Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely and efficiently marshal aircraft during arrival and departure, using internationally recognized hand signals to guide flight crews.
  • Operate a diverse range of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), including baggage tugs, belt loaders, pushback tractors, and passenger stairs, ensuring pre-use safety checks are meticulously performed.
  • Perform the loading and unloading of passenger baggage, air cargo, and mail from aircraft holds, ensuring proper handling, scanning, and routing to protect items from damage.
  • Execute aircraft pushback, repositioning, and towing procedures in close coordination with the flight deck and Air Traffic Control to facilitate on-time departures.
  • Connect and disconnect ground power units (GPU), pre-conditioned air (PCA) hoses, and air start units to the aircraft to support onboard systems while on the ground.
  • Conduct aircraft de-icing and anti-icing operations during inclement weather, applying fluids according to precise technical specifications and safety protocols.
  • Perform comprehensive walk-around inspections of the aircraft upon arrival and before departure to identify and report any potential hazards or visible damage.
  • Service aircraft lavatory and potable water systems in a sanitary and efficient manner, adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain constant, clear communication with flight crews, gate agents, and the operations control center using two-way radios and headsets.
  • Strictly adhere to all federal (FAA, TSA), airport, and airline safety regulations, security protocols, and operational procedures at all times.
  • Ensure the security of the ramp area, challenging and reporting any unauthorized individuals or suspicious activities.
  • Drive and operate vehicles in congested and active airside environments, demonstrating exceptional situational awareness and defensive driving techniques.
  • Sort, scan, and reconcile baggage and cargo against the flight manifest to ensure 100% accuracy and prevent loading errors.
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to irregular operations (IROPS), such as flight delays, diversions, or emergencies, adapting to changing priorities.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain detailed operational records, including equipment service logs, baggage reconciliation reports, and aircraft servicing checklists.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly work environment on the ramp, in the bag room, and around GSE parking areas to prevent foreign object debris (FOD).
  • Handle specialized cargo, including live animals, dangerous goods, and human remains, with the utmost care and in accordance with strict regulations.
  • Participate actively in daily safety briefings, team meetings, and recurrent training to stay current on policies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Passenger Service Agents to resolve baggage discrepancies and assist with gate-checking oversized carry-on items.
  • Provide support for cabin cleaning and light restocking between flights to expedite aircraft turnaround times.
  • Monitor fueling operations to ensure safety and assist in positioning fueling equipment as required.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Operation: Proficiency in operating baggage carts, belt loaders, pushback tugs, and other ramp equipment.
  • Aircraft Marshalling: Knowledge of and ability to execute standard ICAO hand signals for guiding aircraft.
  • Radio Communication: Clear and concise use of two-way radio systems using proper aviation phraseology.
  • Weight and Balance Fundamentals: Basic understanding of how loading affects an aircraft's center of gravity.
  • Baggage Handling Systems (BHS): Familiarity with scanning technology and conveyor systems used in sorting and tracking luggage.
  • Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Prevention: Diligence in identifying and removing debris from the ramp to ensure operational safety.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Technical certification or Associate's Degree in Aviation Management, Operations, or a related field.

Experience Requirements
