Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform rigorous site preparation activities, including clearing debris, rocks, and vegetation to prepare ground surfaces for construction or landscaping projects.
Manually excavate, backfill, and compact earth for trenches, foundations, and utility installations using hand tools such as shovels, picks, and rakes.

Mix, pour, spread, and level construction materials such as concrete, mortar, and asphalt under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Control the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the worksite by setting up signs, cones, and barriers, and acting as a flagger to ensure a safe environment for workers and the public.
Execute a range of landscaping and groundskeeping duties, which may include mowing, trimming, planting, watering, and installing sod or erosion control materials like silt fences.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free worksite by regularly sweeping, collecting trash, and properly disposing of waste and scrap materials.
Assist in the controlled demolition of structures, walls, and pavement using a combination of hand tools and supporting heavy machinery operations under close supervision.
Perform basic measurements and alignments using tape measures and levels, marking out installation areas and cutting materials to specified dimensions as instructed.
Conduct routine pre-use checks and minor preventative maintenance on tools and small equipment, reporting any malfunctions, damages, or repair needs to the site supervisor.
Support the installation of essential site utilities and drainage systems, which includes tasks such as laying pipe, connecting fittings, and digging drainage swales.
