Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely guide aircraft during arrival and departure by performing marshalling duties, using standardized international hand signals to communicate with the flight crew.
- Methodically load and unload passenger baggage, time-sensitive cargo, and company mail, ensuring items are handled with care and properly sorted for their destination.
- Operate a diverse range of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), including baggage tugs, belt loaders, pushback tractors, and air conditioning units, after completing rigorous training and certification.
- Perform crucial aircraft servicing functions, such as connecting and disconnecting ground power and air start units, to support the aircraft between flights.
- Conduct lavatory and potable water servicing for the aircraft, adhering to strict sanitation procedures and health regulations.
- Perform aircraft pushback and towing procedures, coordinating with flight and ground crews to reposition aircraft safely on the ramp and for maintenance.
- Execute aircraft de-icing and anti-icing protocols during inclement weather, ensuring the critical surfaces of the aircraft are free from contamination for a safe takeoff.
- Place and remove wheel chocks and safety cones to secure parked aircraft, creating a safe operational zone for ground personnel and vehicles.
- Conduct thorough pre-departure walk-around inspections of the aircraft to identify and report any visible damage or issues to the maintenance team and flight crew.
- Maintain constant communication with team members, flight crews, and the operations control center using two-way radios and other communication devices.
- Adhere meticulously to all company, airport, and federal (FAA/TSA) safety regulations and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Sort and route baggage and cargo efficiently, ensuring accurate loading onto the correct flights to minimize delays and mishandled items.
- Work collaboratively as part of a high-functioning team to meet strict on-time performance goals for aircraft turnarounds.
- Lift and move baggage and cargo, often weighing up to 70 pounds, continuously throughout the shift.
- Operate baggage scanners and other equipment in the bag room to process and sort checked luggage.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly work environment on the ramp, in the bag room, and around the gate area.
- Conduct routine pre-use inspections on all Ground Support Equipment to ensure it is in safe working order, reporting any defects immediately.
- Support fellow ground crew members and other departments as needed to ensure smooth overall airport operations.
- Accurately complete and file operational paperwork, such as loading forms and equipment inspection logs.
- Participate actively in daily safety briefings, recurring training sessions, and team meetings to stay current on procedures and best practices.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
- 0-2 years. This is a fantastic entry point into the aviation industry. Experience in roles requiring physical labor (e.g., warehousing, construction, landscaping) or adherence to safety protocols is highly valued.
Preferred:
- 6+ months of prior experience as a Ramp Agent, Baggage Handler, or in a similar ground handling role at a commercial airport is highly preferred.
- Previous experience operating heavy machinery or vehicles in a professional setting.
