Primary Functions

  • Lead, Mentor, and Develop Talent: Directly manage a team of Product Managers, fostering their growth through coaching, performance feedback, and career development, creating a high-performance, collaborative product culture.
  • Define Portfolio-Level Product Vision: Craft and champion a clear, compelling, and cohesive vision and multi-year strategy for a group of related products, ensuring it aligns with the overall company objectives.

  • Drive Cross-Functional Leadership Alignment: Act as the primary liaison between the product group and executive leadership, as well as leaders in Engineering, Design, Marketing, and Sales, to ensure strategic alignment and secure buy-in.
  • Champion Customer-Centricity: Instill a deep understanding of the user across the team by leading efforts in market research, customer interviews, and user data analysis to inform the product strategy and identify unmet needs.
  • Manage Stakeholder Expectations: Proactively communicate product strategy, roadmap progress, and key results to a wide range of stakeholders, from C-level executives to individual contributors, ensuring transparency and managing expectations.
  • Evangelize the Product Story: Serve as the chief storyteller and evangelist for the product portfolio, articulating its value and strategic importance both internally to the company and externally to the market and key partners.
  • Oversee the Entire Product Lifecycle: Guide the product group through the full lifecycle, from initial ideation and discovery, through development and launch, to iteration, and eventually, end-of-life decisions.
  • Establish and Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Define the key metrics and OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) that measure the success of the product portfolio and drive accountability within the team for achieving them.
  • Facilitate Strategic Prioritization: Lead complex prioritization discussions and make tough trade-off decisions, allocating team resources and capital effectively to maximize impact and ROI for the product group.
  • Analyze Market and Competitive Landscape: Continuously monitor and analyze market trends, emerging technologies, and the competitive environment to identify strategic opportunities and potential threats.
  • Develop Robust Business Cases: Create and present comprehensive business cases for significant new initiatives, justifying investment with data-backed revenue projections, cost analysis, and strategic rationale.
  • Ensure Go-to-Market Success: Collaborate closely with Product Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success to orchestrate successful product launches and ensure the organization is ready to market, sell, and support new offerings.
  • Scale Product Processes: Evolve and scale the product management processes and practices within the group to improve efficiency, decision-making, and overall team velocity as the organization grows.
  • Resolve High-Level Conflicts and Roadblocks: Act as a senior point of escalation to remove impediments, resolve cross-team dependencies, and navigate organizational hurdles for the product managers on the team.
  • Foster a Culture of Innovation and Experimentation: Encourage and facilitate a culture of hypothesis-driven development, rapid testing, and learning to foster innovation and de-risk major product bets.
  • Influence Technical Strategy: Partner with senior engineering counterparts to influence the technical architecture and platform decisions that support the long-term health and scalability of the product portfolio.
  • Manage Product Group Budgets: Take responsibility for budget planning and management for the product group, including headcount, tooling, and research expenses.
  • Recruit Top-Tier Product Talent: Play a key role in the hiring process to attract, interview, and onboard exceptional product managers, building a world-class team.
  • Represent the Product in Executive Forums: Confidently present product strategy, performance data, and strategic recommendations to executive committees, the board of directors, and at company-wide meetings.
