Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex failures in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on a wide range of ground support equipment.
- Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance (PMs) on equipment such as bag tugs, belt loaders, pushbacks, de-icers, and ground power units according to manufacturer specifications and company schedules.
- Conduct detailed inspections and operational tests on repaired equipment to ensure it meets strict safety standards and performance requirements before being returned to service.
- Read and interpret complex technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical/hydraulic schematics to perform accurate diagnostics and repairs.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools, including OEM software, laptops, scanners, and multimeters, to identify the root cause of equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts used within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Respond promptly to service calls on the airfield to perform emergency "down-line" repairs, minimizing equipment downtime and preventing operational delays.
- Overhaul and rebuild major components, including diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials, and hydraulic pumps.
- Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication on equipment frames and components as needed to complete structural repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair intricate DC and AC electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, alternators, starters, inverters, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Ensure all work is performed in strict compliance with company policies, airport regulations, and federal (FAA) safety standards at all times.
- Manage parts inventory by accurately identifying, sourcing, and ordering necessary components while documenting their usage for effective cost tracking.
- Repair and maintain diverse fuel systems, including gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuels (LPG, CNG).
- Service, diagnose, and repair air conditioning and heating (HVAC) systems on various GSE units to ensure operator comfort and safety.
- Perform complete service and repair of brake systems, including hydraulic, disc, drum, and air brakes.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to apprentice mechanics and junior technicians.
- Communicate effectively with operations staff and management regarding equipment status, estimated repair timelines, and potential issues impacting the operation.
- Perform tire and wheel maintenance, including dismounting, mounting, repair, and balancing for the entire GSE fleet.
- Conduct periodic safety and quality audits on equipment to ensure a constant state of operational readiness.
- Prepare and submit accurate work orders, service reports, time cards, and other required administrative paperwork in a timely manner.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the maintenance shop, service vehicles, and on the airfield.
- Assist in managing the parts inventory, including cycle counts and restocking, to ensure critical components are on hand.
- Mentor and provide technical support to junior technicians to foster team growth and skill development.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing maintenance processes and increasing equipment reliability.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Advanced proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines.
- Expert knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting and repair.
- Strong competency in diagnosing and repairing complex AC/DC electrical and electronic systems.
- Ability to proficiently read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics (electrical and hydraulic).
- Experience with welding (MIG, Stick) and light metal fabrication for equipment repair.
- Proficiency using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work order tracking.
- Skilled in the use of electronic diagnostic tools, multimeters, and proprietary diagnostic software.
- In-depth knowledge of brake systems, including air and hydraulic systems.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain an airport SIDA badge.
Preferred Education:
- Vocational or Technical School Certificate in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or Heavy Equipment Maintenance.
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications.
