Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Greet all members, guests, and prospective members with a warm, energetic, and welcoming attitude to set a positive tone for their visit.
- Conduct comprehensive and engaging tours of the facility for potential members, highlighting key features, equipment, and services.
- Manage the front desk operations, including answering multi-line phones, directing calls, and responding to member inquiries in-person and via email.
- Process new membership agreements, renewals, and cancellations accurately using the club's member management software.
- Maintain a pristine and organized environment on the gym floor by consistently re-racking weights, returning equipment to its designated place, and organizing fitness accessories.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitization of all fitness equipment, including cardio machines, strength training equipment, and high-touch surfaces, following a detailed checklist.
- Proactively monitor the gym floor to ensure member safety, enforce gym policies and etiquette in a friendly but firm manner, and offer assistance when needed.
- Provide clear and simple demonstrations to members on the proper and safe usage of various cardio and strength-training machines.
- Immediately identify, tag, and report any malfunctioning, damaged, or out-of-order equipment to the management team to ensure swift repairs.
- Handle point-of-sale (POS) transactions for retail merchandise, beverages, supplements, and other services offered by the gym.
- Regularly inspect and restock supplies in the locker rooms, restrooms, and cleaning stations, including towels, paper products, and sanitizer.
- Execute opening and closing procedures for the facility, ensuring all tasks are completed and the gym is secure and ready for business.
- Assist members with scheduling appointments, booking classes, and navigating the club’s app or online portal.
- Act as a knowledgeable resource for members, answering basic questions about fitness, class schedules, and personal training options.
- Actively promote gym services, upcoming events, personal training promotions, and group fitness classes to drive member engagement and revenue.
Secondary Functions
- Support Personal Trainers and Group Fitness Instructors by assisting with equipment setup for their clients or classes.
- Participate in and assist with the setup and execution of special gym events, member appreciation days, and community outreach initiatives.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all areas of the facility beyond the main gym floor, including studios, hallways, and lobby areas.
- Perform light administrative duties, such as filing paperwork, organizing documents, and managing lost and found items.
- Monitor facility access to ensure only authorized members and guests are entering the workout areas.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification: Must be current or obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
- Fitness Equipment Knowledge: A solid understanding of how to operate and perform minor maintenance on a wide range of cardio and strength equipment.
- Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Experience or the ability to quickly learn how to process transactions and manage a cash drawer.
- Basic Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with standard office software (e.g., MS Office) and member management systems.
- Cleaning & Sanitation Protocols: Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and the safe use of chemical cleaning agents.

Minimum Education:

Typical Experience Range:
- 0-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role.
