Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Member Engagement & Support: Proactively engage with members on the gym floor, offering a warm welcome and assistance to foster a positive and inclusive community atmosphere.
- Equipment Demonstration: Confidently and clearly demonstrate the correct and safe operation of various strength training and cardiovascular machines to new and existing members, ensuring they feel comfortable.
- Safety Monitoring: Maintain a constant and vigilant presence on the gym floor, actively monitoring for unsafe techniques or behaviors and correcting them in a supportive, educational manner.
- Spotting Assistance: Attentively provide spotting assistance to members during challenging lifts, such as bench presses and squats, to prevent injury and promote confidence and proper form.
- Facility Cleanliness & Hygiene: Execute a rigorous and consistent cleaning schedule for all fitness equipment, workout areas, and high-touch surfaces to ensure a hygienic and safe environment.
- Rule Enforcement: Gently and professionally enforce all gym policies and etiquette guidelines to ensure a respectful and functional space for all members.
- New Member Onboarding: Assist Certified Instructors in conducting new member orientations and basic fitness assessments, helping individuals get started on the right foot.
- Answering Inquiries: Serve as a primary point of contact on the gym floor for member questions regarding equipment, basic exercise principles, and facility amenities.
- Motivation and Encouragement: Offer positive reinforcement and encouragement to members, helping them stay motivated and feel supported throughout their workout.
- First Response: Act as a first responder for any minor injuries or incidents, providing basic first aid and following established emergency protocols, including the use of an AED if necessary.
- Tidiness and Organization: Ensure the gym floor remains organized and free of hazards by re-racking weights, returning accessories to their proper storage, and keeping walkways clear.
- Promoting Services: Inform members about upcoming group fitness classes, personal training promotions, and special gym events to enhance their member experience.
Secondary Functions
- Equipment Maintenance Reporting: Conduct regular walk-throughs to inspect equipment for wear and tear, promptly reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns to the maintenance team or management.
- Supply Management: Monitor and restock essential supplies such as cleaning solutions, paper towels, sanitizer wipes, and first aid kit components.
- Opening & Closing Procedures: Reliably assist with the daily opening and closing procedures for the fitness floor, ensuring all equipment is properly shut down and the facility is secure.
- Feedback Collection: Act as a conduit for member feedback, listening to suggestions or concerns and relaying them to management to help improve our services.
- Event & Class Setup: Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment and spaces for group fitness classes, workshops, and promotional events.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs for cleaning schedules, equipment maintenance checks, and incident reports as required by facility procedures.
- Assisting Front Desk: Provide backup support to the front desk team during peak hours, helping with member check-ins and answering phone calls.
- Community Building: Participate in and help promote gym-wide fitness challenges and social events to build a stronger sense of community among members.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certification: Must hold and maintain current certifications.
- Fitness Equipment Knowledge: Deep understanding of the proper use, function, and basic maintenance of a wide range of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education:

- Kinesiology or Exercise Science

Experience Requirements

- 0-2 years of experience in a customer service or fitness-related environment.
