Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive fitness assessments and initial consultations to understand new and existing members' goals, physical condition, medical history, and lifestyle.
  • Design and implement safe, effective, and highly individualized exercise programs tailored to client needs, including strength, cardio, and flexibility components.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group personal training sessions, demonstrating proper form and technique for a wide range of exercises to prevent injury and maximize results.
  • Lead energetic, well-structured, and engaging group fitness classes, adapting routines to accommodate various fitness levels within the same session.
  • Actively supervise the fitness floor to ensure a safe environment, enforce facility policies, and offer spotting assistance or technique correction to members as needed.
  • Educate members on the correct and safe operation of all cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, from treadmills and ellipticals to free weights and complex machines.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with members to foster a sense of community, increase member retention, and create a loyal client base.
  • Proactively engage with members on the gym floor, offering encouragement, answering fitness-related questions, and providing professional, science-backed advice.
  • Maintain meticulous and confidential client files, diligently tracking their progress, session notes, program modifications, and personal achievements.
  • Perform daily and weekly equipment inspections, cleaning, and light maintenance, promptly reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns to the management team.
  • Ensure the overall cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of the gym floor, studios, and training areas, including re-racking weights and tidying equipment.
  • Assist the membership team with facility tours for prospective members, clearly articulating the value of the gym's services and training programs.
  • Promote and sell personal training packages, specialized programs, and other fitness services to help members achieve their goals while meeting personal sales targets.
  • Stay current with the latest fitness industry trends, research, and best practices through continuing education, workshops, and maintaining certifications.
  • Provide general nutritional guidance and lifestyle coaching that falls within the scope of practice for a certified fitness professional to support clients' holistic wellness.
  • Develop and execute creative member engagement initiatives, such as fitness challenges, educational workshops, or community-building events.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to any first-aid or medical emergencies, adhering strictly to established safety protocols and incident reporting procedures.
  • Utilize client management and scheduling software efficiently to book appointments, manage personal schedules, and process client payments.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with all gym departments, including front desk staff and management, to ensure a cohesive and superior member experience from entry to exit.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Nationally Recognized Personal Training Certification: (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA) is essential.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification: Must be current and valid.
  • Exercise Physiology & Kinesiology: Deep understanding of how the body moves and responds to exercise.
  • Fitness Assessment Proficiency: Skilled in conducting body composition tests, movement screens (like FMS), and cardiovascular testing.
