Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform routine and scheduled preventive maintenance on a diverse range of cardiovascular equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and rowers, to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and functional tests on all strength-training equipment, including free weights, plate-loaded machines, and selectorized stations, to identify wear and tear.
  • Execute timely and effective repairs on malfunctioning fitness equipment by diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues with precision.
  • Maintain an exceptionally detailed and accurate digital log of all maintenance activities, service histories, repairs performed, and parts used for each piece of equipment.
  • Disassemble and reassemble complex machinery to replace faulty components such as motors, belts, cables, pulleys, and electronic consoles.
  • Proactively walk the gym floor daily to visually inspect equipment, identify potential safety hazards, and address minor issues before they escalate.
  • Respond with a sense of urgency to service calls and trouble tickets reported by gym staff and members, providing clear communication on repair status.
  • Ensure all equipment is meticulously cleaned, lubricated, and calibrated according to manufacturer specifications and the facility’s high standards of presentation.
  • Manage the assembly and professional installation of new fitness equipment, ensuring it is set up safely and correctly according to layout plans.
  • Adhere strictly to all workplace health and safety standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout procedures during repairs.
  • Skillfully troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment entertainment systems, heart rate monitors, and other integrated digital features.

Secondary Functions

  • Manage and organize a comprehensive inventory of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies, initiating purchase orders to replenish stock as needed.
  • Liaise directly with third-party service vendors and manufacturer representatives to coordinate advanced repairs, warranty claims, and specialized service.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the facility's overall preventive maintenance strategy and schedule.
  • Provide basic operational training to front-line staff on how to properly use equipment, identify common user errors, and perform simple daily cleaning tasks.
  • Contribute to general facility upkeep and maintenance tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Upholster and repair worn pads, grips, and surfaces on strength machines and benches to maintain aesthetic quality and member comfort.
  • Support the safe and strategic relocation of heavy fitness equipment during facility redesigns, expansions, or special events.
  • Politely and professionally interact with members to answer questions about equipment status or out-of-service machines, enhancing the customer experience.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and parts storage area to promote efficiency and accountability.
