Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform a variety of demanding physical tasks, including digging, trenching, backfilling, and grading, using shovels, picks, and other manual tools to prepare and shape worksites.
Safely load, unload, and meticulously transport construction materials, tools, and equipment across the job site, utilizing wheelbarrows, hand trucks, and material carts.
Operate a range of basic hand tools and power tools, such as drills, saws, grinders, and jackhammers, under the guidance of supervisors or skilled tradespeople.
Assist skilled craft workers, including carpenters, masons, and electricians, by holding materials, fetching tools, and performing other supportive tasks to increase crew efficiency.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site by regularly clearing debris, sweeping floors, and properly storing materials and equipment to prevent hazards.
Erect and dismantle temporary structures, such as scaffolding, barricades, and shoring, ensuring all components are securely assembled and disassembled according to safety protocols.
Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, or other paving materials using hand tools to create smooth and durable surfaces for foundations, sidewalks, and roads.
Adhere strictly to all company and industry safety regulations, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times on the worksite.
Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones by flagging or directing vehicles to ensure the safety of the work crew, pedestrians, and drivers.
Prepare and clean surfaces for painting, plastering, or other finishes by scraping, sanding, or applying cleaning agents.
Perform demolition activities, carefully breaking down walls, tearing out fixtures, and removing debris using sledgehammers, wrecking bars, and other demolition tools.
Read and interpret site plans, instructions, and specifications to understand daily tasks, material requirements, and project goals.
Signal and communicate with equipment operators, verbally or with hand signals, to guide the safe movement and placement of heavy materials and machinery.
Assist in the installation of utility pipes, drainage systems, and sewer lines, which includes digging trenches to the proper depth and grade.
Securely rig and attach loads to cranes and other lifting equipment, ensuring proper balance and safety before hoisting.
Perform basic landscaping duties, such as clearing brush, raking, and seeding, to prepare or restore a site's appearance.
Operate compacting equipment, like plate compactors or rammers, to solidify soil, gravel, or asphalt for a stable base.
Measure, mark, and cut materials like lumber, drywall, and metal studs to specified dimensions using tape measures, saws, and cutting tools.
Identify and report any potential safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or project issues immediately to the site foreman or supervisor.
Apply sealants, caulking, and waterproofing compounds to joints and surfaces to protect structures from moisture and environmental damage.
Assemble and install prefabricated components on-site, following blueprints and manufacturer instructions.
Provide support during concrete pours by guiding chutes, spreading concrete with rakes, and assisting with finishing tasks.

Secondary Functions

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment to ensure they remain in good working order.
Assist with inventory management by helping to count and organize materials and supplies in storage areas or trailers.

Required Skills & Competencies
