Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Expertly operate various industrial sewing machines, including single-needle, post-bed, cylinder-arm, and flat-bed machines, to assemble handbag components.
  • Meticulously stitch and assemble pre-cut leather, canvas, and lining materials according to complex technical packets, patterns, and prototype examples.
  • Perform high-precision topstitching and decorative stitching, ensuring consistent stitch length, tension, and alignment for a flawless finish.
  • Attach and reinforce hardware, including zippers, magnetic snaps, clasps, d-rings, and decorative elements, ensuring functionality and durability.
  • Execute difficult sewing operations on complex shapes and thick materials, skillfully maneuvering gussets, corners, and curved seams.
  • Prepare and finish leather edges through techniques such as skiving, edge painting, and burnishing to create a clean, professional look.
  • Assemble and attach straps, handles, and crossbody chains, ensuring they are securely fastened and correctly positioned.
  • Set and insert pockets, both internal and external, aligning them perfectly with pattern markings.
  • Monitor machine performance throughout the sewing process, making necessary adjustments to thread tension, needle type, and presser foot pressure for different materials.
  • Conduct in-process quality control checks on your own work, identifying and correcting any defects or deviations from the quality standard immediately.
  • Read and interpret detailed production orders, blueprints, and design specifications to ensure each handbag is constructed exactly as designed.
  • Manage workflow efficiently to meet daily and weekly production targets without sacrificing the highest standards of quality.
  • Handle high-value and delicate materials, such as exotic leathers, suede, and fine fabrics, with extreme care to prevent damage or waste.
  • Collaborate closely with cutters, preparers, and finishers to ensure a smooth and efficient production flow from one stage to the next.
  • Execute various hand-sewing and hand-finishing techniques for details that cannot be machine-stitched.
  • Perform basic maintenance on sewing machines, such as cleaning, oiling, and changing needles, to ensure optimal operation and prevent downtime.
  • Consistently adhere to all company quality standards and construction guidelines to maintain brand integrity.
  • Prepare finished handbags for the final quality inspection, ensuring all threads are trimmed and the product is clean.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in accordance with company policies and safety regulations.
  • Accurately track and log production numbers, completed tasks, and time spent on specific styles for production management purposes.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the sample-making team with the construction of new prototypes, providing valuable feedback on manufacturability.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the pattern and design teams regarding construction challenges or potential process improvements.
