Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely and efficiently operate manual handcarts, dollies, and pallet jacks to move merchandise, supplies, and raw materials throughout the facility.
- Load and unload goods and materials from delivery trucks, trailers, and shipping containers, ensuring proper handling techniques to prevent damage.
- Accurately pick products and fulfill orders from storage locations based on paper pick lists or instructions from an RF scanning device.
- Transport raw materials from receiving or storage areas to designated production lines to support continuous manufacturing operations.
- Move finished products from production areas to designated storage, staging, or shipping zones in a timely manner.
- Stage and consolidate customer orders for shipment, verifying that all items are correct, accounted for, and properly organized on pallets or carts.
- Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to organizational standards such as product code, size, type, or FIFO (First-In, First-Out).
- Assist with the packing and preparation of outbound shipments, including building stable pallets, applying shrink wrap, and affixing correct shipping labels.
- Read and interpret work orders, shipping orders, or digital requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by consistently clearing aisles, sweeping floors, and properly disposing of debris and packing materials.
- Conduct routine pre-use inspections on all material handling equipment to ensure it is in safe, working condition and report any defects.
- Report any damaged products, equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or potential security issues immediately to a supervisor or team lead.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, procedures, and OSHA guidelines to foster a culture of safety and prevent accidents.
- Assist in conducting physical inventory counts and regular cycle counts to help maintain accurate inventory records and identify discrepancies.
- Collaborate effectively with team members across departments, including receiving, shipping, and inventory control, to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
Secondary Functions
- Verify the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments by checking merchandise against packing lists, purchase orders, or bills of lading.
- Provide support to other warehouse functions, such as order picking, kitting, or packing, as directed by supervisors to meet daily operational goals.
- Break down cardboard boxes and operate trash compactors and balers to manage waste and support recycling initiatives.
- Assist in restocking primary picking locations from bulk storage to ensure product availability for order fulfillment teams.
- Use a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or computer terminal to look up product locations, check inventory levels, or update the status of tasks.
- Communicate any inventory discrepancies, such as shortages or overages, to the inventory control team for prompt reconciliation.
- Participate in daily team meetings and continuous improvement training sessions focused on enhancing safety, quality, and productivity.
