Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute the full lifecycle of hardwood floor installation, including solid, engineered, and parquet flooring, adhering to manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices.
Meticulously prepare subfloors for installation, involving tasks such as cleaning, scraping, sanding, and leveling to ensure a solid and flat foundation.
Perform precise measurements and calculations to determine material needs, minimize waste, and plan for complex layouts and patterns.
Expertly operate a wide range of professional flooring equipment, including drum sanders, edgers, buffers, multi-disc sanders, nailers, and saws, with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.
Sand new and existing hardwood floors through a multi-stage process, using progressively finer grits of sandpaper to achieve a perfectly smooth surface ready for finishing.
Apply stains, sealers, and topcoats (such as polyurethane, oil, or water-based finishes) with precision to achieve the desired color, sheen, and durability.
Conduct intricate repairs on damaged hardwood floors, which can include board replacement, scratch and dent concealment, and addressing issues caused by water damage or wear.
Read and accurately interpret blueprints, diagrams, and work orders to understand project specifications, layouts, and client requirements.
Skillfully install custom elements like borders, feature strips, medallions, and inlays, demonstrating a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Perform moisture testing on both the subfloor and the wood flooring materials using a moisture meter to prevent future issues such as cupping, gapping, or buckling.
Tear out and responsibly dispose of existing flooring materials, including carpet, tile, vinyl, and old wood, preparing the site for the new installation.
Manage job site logistics, including the careful loading and unloading of heavy materials, tools, and equipment to and from the worksite.
Work confidently with a diverse range of wood species, understanding the unique characteristics, hardness, and finishing properties of each.
Troubleshoot and resolve unforeseen on-site challenges, such as uneven subfloors or difficult transitions, demonstrating strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
Cut and install baseboards, shoe molding, and other trim pieces to provide a clean and finished look to the completed flooring project.

Sanding & Finishing Mastery: Expertise in operating professional-grade sanding equipment (drum sanders, edgers, buffers) and applying various types of stains and finishes to achieve a flawless, durable surface.
Precision Installation Techniques: Proficiency in all primary installation methods, including nail-down, glue-down, and floating installations, for solid and engineered wood.
Subfloor Preparation: Deep knowledge of assessing and preparing different types of subfloors (wood, concrete) to ensure they are clean, level, and structurally sound.
