Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate multi-head commercial embroidery machines (e.g., Tajima, Barudan, Melco) to apply logos and designs onto various styles of hats, including structured caps, unstructured caps, and beanies.
- Skillfully set up, calibrate, and program embroidery machines based on specific job orders, ensuring correct thread colors, needle sizes, and design parameters.
- Expertly hoop and clamp different types of headwear to guarantee precise design placement and prevent material slippage or damage during the embroidery process.
- Interpret detailed work orders and digital proofs to understand all specifications, including design dimensions, thread color codes, and order quantities.
- Operate heat press equipment to apply various embellishments, such as vinyl graphics, screen-printed transfers, and custom patches, ensuring proper time, temperature, and pressure settings.
- Conduct rigorous in-process and final quality control inspections on all decorated hats to ensure they meet stringent company and client standards for accuracy and finish.
- Perform routine daily and preventative maintenance on all decoration equipment, including oiling machines, cleaning hooks, and replacing needles to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve common machine issues in real-time, such as thread breaks, needle breaks, tension inconsistencies, and machine error codes, to minimize production downtime.
- Prepare and trim finished products, removing excess backing material and loose threads to deliver a clean, professional-looking final product.
- Manage workflow efficiently to meet or exceed daily and weekly production targets and adhere to strict project deadlines without sacrificing quality.
- Select appropriate backing and topping materials based on the hat's fabric and the complexity of the design to ensure high-quality embroidery results.
- Ensure precise color matching of threads and materials against approved artwork and Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors specified in the work order.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work station, following all company safety protocols and contributing to a positive production environment.
- Prepare, count, and package completed orders accurately for shipping, local pickup, or internal transfer, ensuring all components of the order are present.
- Document production details meticulously, including run times, material usage, and any issues encountered, for quality and inventory tracking purposes.
Secondary Functions
- Collaborate with the sales and design teams to provide feedback on the feasibility of new designs for hat decoration.
- Assist in managing and organizing the inventory of decoration supplies, including thread, vinyl, backing, and blank headwear, and report on reordering needs.
- Support the training and onboarding of new team members on machine operation, hooping techniques, and quality standards.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss production schedules, challenges, and opportunities for process improvement.
