Primary Functions

Expertly block raw hat bodies using steam, heat, and specialized wooden or metal hat blocks to achieve the precise crown shape and size required by design specifications.
Skillfully operate a rounding jack or use manual cutting techniques to precisely trim the brim to the specified width, ensuring perfect symmetry and consistency.
Meticulously hand-sew or use specialized machinery to attach interior sweatbands, ensuring a clean, durable, and comfortable fit for the wearer.
Apply stiffening solutions to brims and crowns as needed to achieve the desired rigidity and structural integrity, carefully controlling the application for an even finish.
Operate a flanging press or use hand-held irons and tools to curl and shape the brim, creating signature styles from subtle snaps to dramatic pencil curls.
Carefully "pounce" or sand the surface of felt hat bodies to create a luxuriously smooth, uniform texture, removing any imperfections from the felt.
Execute intricate hand-sewing and stitching techniques for attaching exterior ribbons, bands, bows, and other decorative trims with impeccable precision and durability.
Operate industrial sewing machines, such as crown-sewing, brim-sewing, and binding machines, for efficient and high-quality construction of various hat components.
Conduct rigorous, multi-point quality control inspections throughout the finishing process, identifying and correcting any flaws in material, shape, or construction.
Affix and style decorative elements, including feathers, beads, veiling, and custom-made trims, with a keen artistic eye and secure attachment methods.

Maintain a deep understanding of various materials, including fur felt, wool felt, and different types of straw (Panama, Sinamay, etc.), and their unique handling properties.

Accurately measure hat dimensions at multiple stages, including head size, crown height, and brim width, to guarantee conformity to sizing standards.
Prepare and attach brand labels, size tags, and any other required interior or exterior branding elements according to company guidelines.
Carefully package finished hats in a manner that protects their shape and finish during storage and shipment to customers or retail partners.
Collaborate directly with hat designers and pattern makers on the development of new samples, providing valuable feedback on feasibility and construction techniques.
