Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously monitor and regulate environmental conditions within the hatchery, including water temperature, dissolved oxygen levels, pH, and lighting, to ensure optimal development of eggs and young animals.
  • Execute daily feeding protocols according to established schedules and nutritional plans, carefully adjusting feed amounts based on the age, size, and observed health of the stock.
  • Conduct routine health checks on all animals, vigilantly observing for any signs of disease, stress, or abnormal behavior, and promptly reporting findings to the supervisor.
  • Perform the systematic grading, sorting, and counting of eggs, chicks, or fingerlings to assess quality, ensure uniformity, and prepare for the next stage of production or shipment.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated incubation and rearing systems, ensuring all automated equipment functions correctly and within specified parameters.
  • Uphold and enforce stringent biosecurity measures, including footbaths, personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols, and controlled access to prevent the introduction and spread of pathogens.
  • Diligently clean, sanitize, and disinfect all hatchery equipment, including tanks, troughs, incubators, trays, and tools, to maintain a sterile and healthy environment.
  • Collect, record, and maintain precise data on key production metrics such as mortality rates, growth patterns, feed conversion ratios, and environmental readings.
  • Carefully handle and transfer live animals between tanks, incubators, or transport units, utilizing techniques that minimize stress and physical injury.
  • Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, or therapeutic water treatments as directed by the hatchery manager or veterinarian to manage flock or school health.
  • Assist in the critical processes of broodstock management, including spawning, egg collection, and fertilization, following precise and established protocols.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on essential life-support equipment, such as pumps, aeration systems, filters, and backup generators.
  • Prepare and carefully pack live animals or eggs for shipment, ensuring that transport conditions are optimized for survival and meet all regulatory and customer standards.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with the management and tracking of inventory for feed, chemicals, supplies, and spare parts, notifying supervisors when stock levels are low.
  • Operate and maintain facility vehicles and heavy equipment, such as forklifts or tractors, for moving feed pallets and supplies.
  • Support research and development trials by collecting specific data, implementing experimental protocols, and observing outcomes.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and safety briefings, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and workplace safety.
