Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, develop, and continuously update a comprehensive library of safety training materials, including presentations, facilitator guides, hands-on exercises, and assessments.
  • Conduct dynamic and engaging in-person and virtual classroom training sessions for new hires and existing employees on a wide range of safety topics.
  • Deliver specialized and technical hazard training, including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, and Hazard Communication (HazCom).
  • Administer and manage the organization's Learning Management System (LMS) to schedule training, track completion rates, and maintain accurate employee training records for audit purposes.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual training plan and calendar in collaboration with department heads and EHS leadership to meet regulatory and organizational needs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through post-training assessments, on-the-job observation, and feedback surveys, making adjustments to improve knowledge retention and application.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all inquiries related to safety training content and regulatory requirements.
  • Customize training content to be site-specific and relevant to the unique hazards and operational processes of different departments or facilities.
  • Perform needs assessments and gap analyses to identify new training requirements driven by changes in regulations, incident trends, or the introduction of new equipment and processes.
  • Lead and facilitate hands-on "train-the-trainer" sessions to empower supervisors and team leads to deliver daily safety briefings and toolbox talks effectively.
  • Conduct field-based coaching and verification to ensure that safe work practices taught in the classroom are being correctly implemented on the shop floor or in the field.
  • Develop and maintain clear and concise training documentation, ensuring all materials meet OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards.
  • Stay current with advancements in training methodologies and adult learning principles to ensure training is modern, impactful, and resonates with a diverse workforce.
  • Assist in the development and rollout of company-wide safety campaigns and initiatives to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Manage the logistics of training sessions, including room scheduling, equipment setup, and coordination of materials for a seamless learning experience.
  • Deliver specialized training for emergency response teams, including first aid/CPR/AED, spill response, and evacuation procedures.
  • Translate complex regulatory language and technical safety concepts into simple, understandable terms for employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Partner with the EHS team to review incident investigation reports and near-miss data to identify trends that can be addressed through targeted training interventions.
  • Participate in internal and external safety audits by providing training records, course materials, and evidence of employee competency.
  • Develop and deliver training related to mobile equipment operation, such as forklifts, aerial lifts, and other powered industrial trucks, including practical evaluations.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the EHS team in conducting periodic safety inspections and hazard assessments to identify potential risks.
  • Participate actively in Safety Committee meetings, providing insights on training needs and effectiveness.
  • Support incident investigation processes by providing expertise on whether training or procedural gaps were a contributing factor.
  • Help review and update written safety policies, procedures, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to ensure they align with training content.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 General Industry and/or 1926 Construction).
  • Expertise in delivering training on core safety topics such as Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, HazCom/GHS, and Electrical Safety.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) for course administration and record-keeping.
  • Experience in developing training content using software like PowerPoint, Articulate, or Camtasia.
  • Certified to train on Powered Industrial Trucks (Forklifts) and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
  • HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) certification and experience.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification (e.g., from American Red Cross or AHA).
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theories and instructional design principles.
  • Ability to conduct effective safety needs analyses and program evaluations.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations (EPA, RCRA) as they pertain to operational hazards.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an Associate's degree combined with significant, directly relevant experience.

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience in a high-risk industry such as manufacturing, construction, chemical processing, or logistics.
