Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Safely operate various commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, straight trucks, and vacuum trucks, in strict accordance with all DOT, EPA, and company safety regulations to transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.
Properly load, unload, and secure diverse waste containers such as drums, totes, and lab packs, ensuring correct weight distribution and adherence to all federal load securement standards.
Meticulously complete and maintain all required shipping documentation, including uniform hazardous waste manifests, bills of lading, and land disposal restriction forms, verifying accuracy and legibility before departing any site.
Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the assigned vehicle and associated equipment, meticulously documenting findings and immediately reporting any defects to ensure the vehicle is safe for operation.
Correctly select, use, and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which may include respirators, chemical-resistant suits, gloves, and safety glasses, based on the specific hazards of the materials being handled.
Interact professionally and effectively with clients on-site to verify waste profiles and container counts, answer questions, and address any immediate customer service needs or concerns with a solutions-oriented mindset.
Ensure all containers are properly labeled and marked according to DOT and EPA regulations to provide clear identification of the materials being transported.
Navigate routes efficiently and safely using maps, company routing software, or GPS, while remaining flexible to adapt to schedule changes, traffic, or other unforeseen delays.
Manage the systematic collection and consolidation of hazardous materials from a variety of customer locations, often involving multiple service stops within a single day.
Guarantee the vehicle is correctly placarded at all times to reflect the specific hazards of the materials being transported, updating as materials are loaded and unloaded.
Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, drum dollies, and pallet jacks, with a high degree of safety and proficiency to move and stage waste containers.
Execute established emergency response procedures in the event of any minor spills or incidents during transport or handling, and ensure immediate notification to management and appropriate authorities.
Maintain a clean, organized, and decontaminated truck cab and cargo area, ensuring it is prepared and safe for the next assignment.
Communicate clearly and consistently with dispatchers, supervisors, and other team members regarding route status, delays, on-site issues, and completion of assignments.
Adhere rigorously to all federal, state, and local regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR).

Secondary Functions

Assist with on-site responsibilities at transfer, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs), including the unloading, sorting, and staging of incoming waste materials.
Perform routine minor maintenance on the vehicle, such as checking and topping off fluid levels, monitoring tire pressure, and confirming all lights and signals are fully operational.
Maintain precise and compliant electronic or paper logs (ELDs/logbooks) to track hours of service, ensuring full compliance with DOT regulations at all times.
Proactively educate customers on best practices for waste segregation, proper containerization, and accurate labeling to foster compliance, safety, and strong client relationships.
Complete detailed daily work orders and service reports, providing clear and comprehensive documentation of the services performed at each client location for accurate billing and record-keeping.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

CDL Operation: High proficiency in operating Class A or Class B commercial vehicles, potentially including those with manual transmissions, in various traffic and weather conditions.
Hazmat Regulatory Knowledge: A strong, practical understanding of DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations related to the handling, transportation, and documentation of hazardous waste.

Experience Requirements
