Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Direct and manage the entire pharmacy team, including staff pharmacists, technicians, and support personnel, through effective recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and professional development.
- Oversee all pharmacy operations, including prescription dispensing, medication therapy management (MTM), and patient counseling, to guarantee the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
- Ensure strict compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and professional standards (e.g., DEA, Board of Pharmacy, The Joint Commission, HIPAA).
- Serve as the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), accepting full legal and operational responsibility for the pharmacy department's integrity and performance.
- Lead the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, guiding formulary management, medication-use evaluations (MUEs), and the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Maintain comprehensive control over the procurement, storage, security, and inventory management of all pharmaceuticals, minimizing waste and preventing drug diversion through robust auditing and controls.
- Provide advanced clinical pharmacy services, including pharmacokinetic dosing, anticoagulant management, and serving as the primary resource for complex drug information inquiries from medical staff.
- Investigate and report medication errors and adverse drug reactions (ADRs), leading root cause analyses and developing proactive, system-wide preventative strategies to enhance patient safety.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare leaders to develop and implement integrated patient care plans and ensure optimal, cost-effective pharmacotherapy.
- Design and oversee the pharmacy's quality assurance and continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and implementing data-driven corrective actions.
- Manage the pharmacy's budget, including forecasting financial performance, monitoring expenditures, and implementing cost-containment strategies without compromising the quality of patient care.
- Champion and maintain a culture of patient safety, professionalism, and exceptional customer service throughout all pharmacy interactions and services.
- Oversee sterile and non-sterile compounding activities, ensuring full compliance with USP <797>, <795>, and <800> standards and maintaining a safe and sterile environment.
- Lead the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of pharmacy technology and automation systems, such as CPOE, automated dispensing cabinets, and barcode medication administration.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of all medication storage areas throughout the facility to ensure compliance with environmental conditions and security protocols.
- Act as the primary subject matter expert for all medication-related matters within the organization, providing critical guidance to executive leadership and clinical teams.

Required Skills & Competencies

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of practice.
Preferred Education:
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and/or a PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency.
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Health Administration (MHA).
