Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Strategic Security Program Development: Design, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive, enterprise-wide security strategy, encompassing policies, standards, and procedures to protect personnel, physical assets, and intellectual property.
  • Security Operations & Systems Oversight: Direct the management and operation of all physical security systems, including electronic access control, video surveillance (CCTV), intrusion detection alarms, and incident management software platforms, ensuring optimal performance and integration.
  • Incident Command & Crisis Management: Act as the primary incident commander during security-related crises, emergencies, and business disruptions, leading the response effort and coordinating with executive leadership and external agencies to ensure swift and effective resolution.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct ongoing, comprehensive security risk assessments and vulnerability analyses for all corporate facilities, supply chain nodes, and special events to proactively identify threats and develop robust mitigation strategies.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of security professionals, including managers, supervisors, and front-line officers, fostering a culture of vigilance, professionalism, and exceptional service.
  • Investigations Leadership: Oversee and direct all internal and external investigations into significant security breaches, theft, fraud, workplace violence, and other critical incidents, ensuring investigations are conducted ethically, thoroughly, and with proper documentation.
  • Executive & Travel Security: Develop and manage a sophisticated executive protection program to ensure the safety of key company leaders at headquarters, residences, and during domestic and international travel, including threat intelligence monitoring and coordination of protective details.
  • Budgetary & Financial Oversight: Prepare, justify, and manage the annual security department budget, including operational expenses and capital expenditures for new technologies and projects, ensuring fiscal responsibility and optimal resource allocation.
  • Law Enforcement & Agency Liaison: Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as intelligence communities and emergency services, to facilitate cooperation and information sharing.
  • Executive Advisory: Serve as the principal security advisor to senior leadership and the board of directors, providing regular updates, strategic insights, threat intelligence briefings, and expert recommendations on all matters of security and risk.
  • Contract & Vendor Management: Direct the procurement and management of third-party security services, including guard forces and technology vendors, from contract negotiation and defining service level agreements (SLAs) to continuous performance monitoring and evaluation.
  • Workplace Violence Prevention: Implement and manage a holistic workplace violence prevention program, which includes establishing threat assessment teams, delivering de-escalation training, and refining response protocols.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure the security program is in full compliance with all relevant legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements related to security, privacy, and safety, such as C-TPAT, and industry-specific mandates.
  • Security Awareness & Training: Champion a security-conscious culture by developing and delivering comprehensive security awareness and training programs for all employees on critical topics like active shooter response, social engineering, and travel safety.
  • Converged Security Integration: Collaborate closely with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and IT leadership to integrate physical security measures with cybersecurity initiatives, creating a unified approach to protecting the organization from blended threats.

Secondary Functions

  • Event Security Management: Plan and direct all security operations for major corporate events, shareholder meetings, and product launches, ensuring the safety of all attendees and the integrity of the event.
  • New Construction & Renovation Security Design: Oversee the security design and implementation for new construction projects, facility renovations, and corporate relocations, ensuring security standards are embedded from the initial design phase.
  • Loss Prevention Program Management: Manage the organization's loss prevention program by utilizing data analytics, audits, and investigative techniques to identify inventory or asset loss trends and implement corrective measures.
  • Due Diligence Support: Conduct thorough security and risk assessments for potential mergers, acquisitions, and new market entries to evaluate potential security risks, liabilities, and integration challenges.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Security Systems Management: Deep expertise in the design, implementation, and management of integrated physical security technologies, including enterprise-level access control, VMS (Video Management Systems), and PSIM (Physical Security Information Management) platforms.
  • Crisis Management & Incident Command: Formal training and demonstrated experience in Incident Command Systems (ICS) or similar crisis management frameworks to lead effectively during high-stress situations.
  • Corporate Investigative Practices: Mastery of modern investigative techniques, interview and interrogation methods, evidence handling, and case management for complex corporate and criminal investigations.
  • Security Risk & Vulnerability Assessment: Proven ability to apply methodologies like CARVER or RAM-T to conduct detailed risk, threat, and vulnerability assessments and develop actionable mitigation plans.
  • Budgeting & Financial Acumen: Strong experience in developing and managing large, complex departmental budgets, including operational and capital planning, and demonstrating ROI for security investments.
  • Executive Protection Methodologies: In-depth knowledge of executive protection principles, including advance planning, threat assessment, route analysis, and surveillance detection.
  • Regulatory & Legal Compliance: Strong working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations impacting corporate security, including OSHA, C-TPAT, and data privacy laws as they relate to physical security.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) are highly desirable.
