Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Design and develop comprehensive HVAC and thermal management systems for commercial, industrial, and residential projects, ensuring alignment with client specifications and performance goals.
- Perform detailed heat load and energy calculations using industry-standard software (e.g., HAP, TRACE 3D Plus) to accurately size and select system components.
- Create and interpret detailed engineering drawings, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), system schematics, and equipment layouts using CAD and BIM software like AutoCAD and Revit.
- Conduct advanced thermal and fluid dynamics analysis, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, to model system performance, predict airflow, and optimize for thermal comfort and efficiency.
- Select major mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units (AHUs), pumps, and heat exchangers based on rigorous analysis, energy codes, and project budgets.
- Ensure all designs and installations strictly adhere to relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations, including ASHRAE, ASME, and local building and energy codes.
- Lead the technical aspects of thermal projects from the initial concept and feasibility studies through detailed design, procurement, and final commissioning.
- Develop and implement sophisticated control strategies for Building Automation Systems (BAS) to optimize system operation, reduce energy consumption, and enhance occupant comfort.
- Prepare thorough technical specifications, scope of work documents, and detailed cost estimates for proposed thermal systems and energy conservation measures.
- Conduct on-site inspections, system diagnostics, and performance testing to troubleshoot operational issues in existing systems and validate the performance of new installations.
- Author comprehensive technical reports, feasibility studies, and energy audit findings, presenting complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams, including architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, and construction managers, to deliver integrated and coordinated building systems.
- Manage the commissioning process, including developing commissioning plans, directing functional performance tests, and ensuring all systems operate as designed.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, materials, and methodologies in heat transfer and energy systems to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
