Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute the complete installation of new residential and commercial heating systems, including furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits, adhering strictly to manufacturer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-installation site surveys and assessments to determine accurate system sizing, placement, and unique installation requirements.
  • Safely install, test, and connect gas lines to various heating appliances, ensuring all fittings are secure, leak-free, and fully compliant with local and national gas codes.
  • Skillfully fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal ductwork, plenums, and air distribution components to ensure balanced airflow and peak system efficiency.
  • Expertly perform brazing, soldering, and pipefitting for hydronic heating systems, refrigerant lines, and condensate drains, ensuring durable and leak-proof joints.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical design documents to accurately map out and execute installation projects from start to finish.
  • Wire and install low-voltage thermostats, zone controllers, and other system controls, verifying proper communication and functionality between all components.
  • Perform meticulous system start-ups and commissioning procedures, including charging refrigerant, checking gas pressures, and performing combustion analysis to verify safe and efficient operation.
  • Provide clear and comprehensive on-site training to homeowners and clients on the proper operation, features, and routine maintenance of their newly installed equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times, strictly adhering to OSHA regulations and company-wide safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Diagnose and resolve any technical issues or unforeseen challenges that arise during the installation process, applying critical thinking to ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Effectively coordinate and collaborate with other trade professionals, such as electricians, plumbers, and general contractors, on new construction and remodel projects.
  • Accurately complete all required digital and paper documentation, including work orders, installation checklists, commissioning reports, and customer sign-offs.
  • Manage and maintain the inventory of parts, tools, and materials on your assigned service vehicle, ensuring it is well-stocked and prepared for all scheduled jobs.
  • Perform the safe and environmentally-conscious removal and disposal of old heating equipment and associated materials.
  • Conduct Manual J load calculations to precisely size heating equipment for new installations, ensuring optimal performance, energy efficiency, and customer comfort.
  • Install and configure smart thermostats and integrate heating systems with home automation platforms for enhanced user control and efficiency.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and demeanor, communicating effectively and courteously with customers to ensure a positive service experience from start to finish.
  • Perform pressure and vacuum tests on all gas and refrigerant lines to guarantee the absolute safety and integrity of the completed system.
  • Act as a mentor to apprentice installers, sharing technical knowledge, reinforcing safety best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep proficiency in the installation of diverse heating systems, including gas/oil furnaces, hydronic boilers, air-source heat pumps, and geothermal systems.
  • Strong knowledge of gas piping, sizing, and venting requirements in accordance with local and national codes (e.g., IMC, NFPA).
  • Proven skill in brazing, soldering, and threading pipe with a high degree of precision and quality.
  • Ability to expertly read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical installation manuals.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication, ductwork modification, and installation for forced-air systems.
  • Competency in low-voltage electrical wiring, troubleshooting, and connecting thermostats and control boards.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification for proper and safe refrigerant handling.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, manometers, combustion analyzers, and digital refrigerant gauges.
  • Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are mandatory.
  • Relevant trade licenses or certifications (e.g., NATE Certification, Gas Fitter License) are highly desirable.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment (50+ lbs), work in confined spaces like attics and crawlspaces, and tolerate various weather conditions.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Experience Requirements
